Bryan - We are all waiting for a DIY guide for the grill replacement. I bought mine the same day i bought my car last friday (4.29.2013) and i have yet to get it replace.

I know that there's a F30 DIY which you have to remove some Torx screws and some rubber and then using some flat head screwdriver to release the clips from the bumper. The process is tedious. But another F30 drive use a Hose Remover and a flash light tool to remove the grilles. Only took like 5 minutes. He used the tool by accessing the clips from inside (between grill blades) and with a flash light he separate each individual clip from the bumper.

Go run to HomeDepot and buy this $7 tool and let us know if it works.

Looks like its for removing hoses or split-pins - cotter-pins on your side of the pond.

Okay! Looking beneath the hood reveals that this will be almost impossible to access from top.

I think i will try the stupid radiator removal tool. If the tool doesn't work on it, will just break each individual grill blade and get it off this way . I ain't paying BMW Service department $100-$200 for this small job. Why would i need another set of grills laying around? I still have my old decommission X6 grills collecting dust.

Just take it to a shop with a lift and pay the guy like 20, or a case of beers.

Bringing this thread back to life. Any DIY on the F12/13/06 grill removal? I tried the F10 DIY but couldn't access the bottom of the grills. Thanks in advance.

I gave the DIY a shot, but I have to admit that I got nervous taking this car apart.

Ultimately, I took her to the shop and they did it in about 1 hour

i think you could take it to a dealer, since they have those grilles for sale too.

$75 a piece x 2 = $150

I think with the grilles and install, comes out to about $250ish.

Not sure though.

I managed to change my grills in about 15 mins in total. Here is how to do it:

Open the hood/bonnet
remove the rubber strip that runs along the front. It just clips in place.
remove the four expanding rivets from the top of the bumper
remove six t30 hex screws and washers

This allows you to gently pull the bumper forward to gain access to the grill clips. Using a screwdriver or plastic trim tool push in the clips and lighty pull the grill forward. You can easily reach all the top clips and the clips on the upper sides.

I found the next step easier whilst wearing mechanic's gloves as the grill blades are quite thin and can hurt you fingers. Using both hands hold each side of the grill and sharply pull forward. The grill will pop out from the rest of the clips, you may find one clip will stay locked but now the grill is mostly out you can reach in an unclip it with you fingers.

Repeat the procedure on the other grill, this is much easier as you will have better access through the hole of the first grill.

The new grills simply clip in.

hope this helps

I just did this mod myself the other day. Its somewhat of a pain. But yes the steps listed by Dannym (post #19) are correct. make sure you have a very long screwdriver to reach the side clip (on the side closest to your headlights)

After the screws and clips are removed and you are looking inside the bumper: Start with the top clips, then the sides, and lastly the bottom. Took me about 30 min. If i had to do it again, id say 10-15 minutes now that the fear is gone and I know what to do.

Just yanking on the grilles or using a hose removal tool will not work on our cars unfortunately.

My friend did his 5 series by just pulling the grille with his bare hands. You just have to do a really fast-strong pull and they come off.
