I find myself wondering if I’ll ever buy another gas fueled car

Because you may go fully electric or because you may keep your GC forever? My issue with electric cars - besides thinking Teslas are as exciting inside as soggy Wonder Bread - is the range. I'm a road trip person. I've driven 600+ miles in a day more times than I can count. And I like two-lane small roads. That just is not very compatible with the current electric car range and charging network.

All of your points are valid and I agree 100%. But I keep reading that by 2030, almost all new cars will be electric. Then I wonder how much gas will cost, how many penalties CA will impose on Non-EV cars, etc. I also have concerns for the planet.

As far as keeping my GC forever, no. I plan on keeping her for another couple of years. I agree that the Teslas are not sexy, in or out. But I did test drive one and it is a wonder to drive. I did not buy one and have no intention of buying one. But I am very interested in seeing what the Apple car looks like.

It’s too bad that the Fisker was such a disaster. I see those around Beverly Hills once in a while and they are very attractive. Who knows? A decade ago I was a dedicated AMG guy and wouldn’t have driven a BMW if it were free. Lol! Now I’m a BMW guy, converted buy the fairly incomparable GC.

I remember living in Manhattan Beach worrying about what gas prices would look like after Y2K. One of our engineers picked me up in his EV1. It was 1997 I was living the Corporate dream.... We pulled out of my driveway in the most hideous looking car i had ever seen. The driver, a very bright man pointed at my brand new 996 and said “in 10 years gas will be 5$ a gallon and nearly all new cars will be electric.”

The next best looking sedans that are electric are Lucid Air and Audi e-tron GT. They look decent even if they were ICE cars. And their performance is great as well.

I forgot my biggest stumbling block to current/planned electric cars - I am not aware of any being offered as a convertible - or at least one that is not a tiny roadster. I am one who views a fixed roof roof on a car as a slam dunk product defect claim, so that's kind of a deal killer for me. Maybe that will change over time.

Really not sure either. I don't desire any of the electric offerings right now.
Still set on the 912 to replace the 6 and a Raptor to replace the Hummer

I've owned three 6 series and currently own two. I'll be happy with another M6 but I have zero desire to buy another BMW. In fact, we're in the process of purchasing two new cars and they are not BMW. The brand direction is disgusting both from a design standpoint as well as an arrogance standpoint. I'm not interested in buying ugly cars from nasty people at a complicit company.

In a couple of years...he'll probably be half right...gas will probably be close to $5 per gallon!

BTW, does anyone have an "ear-to-the-ground" as to any companies (large or small) that may be the lucky ones that get in on the government's list for expanding the electric car power stations infrastructure? I'd like to invest some money....especially if there's going to be a government push for expanding green technology.

With respect, the context of that original prediction was that it was given to me in 1997, when super unleaded was about $1.35 per gallon US. The idea of an electric car at the time was the GM EV1 which I was a passenger in when the prediction was made, to me it was a very grotesque reality. I had grown up when predictions of future cars were given freely, with extreme certainty and usually involved ones that flew or hovered. In the 70's and 80's it was a given that by 2020 fossil fuel would be a thing of the past as it would surely have all been used up. I find most of these type of predictions are really based on a given agenda and as a rule don't base my car purchasing decisions on them. The only electric car I see that has a place in my heart now is the Audi E-tron GT, which does not possess anywhere near the range on a charge that my life requires. I urge anyone who has interest in Electric vehicles to watch Ewan McGregor's "A Long Way Up" to get an extreme view of life with an electric only vehicle without a necessary charging infrastructure in place. It's very eye opening.

Since 1997 I've had (one was a lease) 26 different vehicles between my wife, daughter and I. This may seem excessive, but I love cars.... I hope and expect I'll have many more, I have a strong affinity for my F06 but I certainly don't see it as the last/best designed car I'll ever own. Mine is aging, because of it's INSANE depreciation I'll most likely keep it until I hit that point where it needs a repair that is of greater cost than it's value, its been my pattern many times for one of the cars I truly love. In fairness my pain threshold is pretty high, I once rebuilt the Aisin Transmission in my 2003 Cayenne Turbo - It consumed me for over a month. Once this happens I take it out to the farm and shoot it..... Or give it away.

This week I placed an order for an AMG GT 63, the cycle continues. BTW this means I'll join another forum where everyone agrees that the model "we"all have is the last/best car and everything new is sh!t! I'll continue to drive my wife crazy by doing all of the maintenance and most of the mechanical repairs on my cars myself, my wife will continue to think that I'm doing it to save a buck when in fact I'm doing it because I loved tinkering with cars when I was a kid and it makes me feel like I'm still a kid by doing it now, which of course is why I buy all these over priced maintenance heavy performance cars in the first place.

Best!

Congrats-wish I was in your boat-regarding the GT 63-probably three years from now.
Its going to be a toss up between the GT and the M850 Competition-preowned.

I like all-arounder cars. So 6 GC fits relatively well that requirement. Now I am toying with the idea of an X5. Maybe an M2 or a Cayman to compliment it. But then it's two cars to pay insurance for, maintain, etc. not sure i want to complicate my life that way :-)
Another idea, if i am already considering two cars, is to get an electric car around town and an ICE for road trips. Then the choice becomes even more difficult. Electric Macan? And keep the GC? X5? But two SUVs? What about a small tossable car then?

So it's the GC for the time being

Isn't that how its supposed to work lol. Most cars are great for their own reasons. Still most get outdated fairly quick.

I was thinking of switching to a 911 Carrera S but have decided not to do so as I would lose a ton of the creature comforts that my fully loaded GC offers in exchange for a different driving experience. I only have 27K miles on it and have still to find another car that looks so beautiful ....aside from Porsches, Ferraris, and McLarens which I dont have the resources for in this lifetime.

If I had to go electric, it would be a Taycan at this point. They look great. Interior not too futuristic. Who knows what will be available over the next 2-3 years with such a big push towards electric. Hoping prices for electric don't rise like crazy due to the extra demand.
