650i Coils and Plugs

Just got a Bootmod3 Stage 1 tune on the car and it feels like a rocket ship now but there's been some rough idle when stopped. Not exactly sure what the issue is but I'm looking at the plugs and coils. I bought the car at 65k and now at 69k and I think it's time to change the old coils and plugs.

For the spark plugs I'm looking to go for NGK 1 step colder. Probably just going to go w Bosch for the ignition coils. Can anyone give me the part # for NGK spark plugs and Bosch ignition coils? How much would the gap need to be for stage 1/2?

NGK 97506 x 8 at .02 gap

I'd go Eldor coils thou. Most of us with heavy tunes find them better.

Where were you when I bought my coils?!

I went with Delphi, DON'T go with Delphi on the N63TU! They are thicker than the Bosch and were an absolute pain to install.

I am running the NGK 95770 gapped to .022 with the BM3 stage1 93 oct tune and I have had no issues, but most people recomend the 97506 that TR mentioned.

I also ran those ngk as well at .02 with zero issues. Even at 25 psi boost they work great.

I heard that the rule was 1 step for every 100 hp. As of right now and the foreseeable future I'll be at stage 1. Would there be any difference going with 2 step colder? Also, what is the benefits of Delphi/Eldor coils over the Bosch ones?

There is some disagreements on which is the correct plug. Some say the 95770 is one step colder, some say it is the same heat range as stock and the 97506 is one stage colder. I can say the 95770 work great with stage 1, and so do the 97506.

As for the coils, those that have modded thier bimmers tend to agree the bosch dont have the same energy, or last as long as the Delphi coils. I am not familiar with Eldor but judging by the mods TR has, i am guessing they are as good or better than the Delphi.

I have ran both ngk's and have had no issue with either. I am also running 25 psi boost and close to 600 whp. As long as both were gapped to .02 I didn't notice any differences. As you said eldor is the preferred choice, they just seem stronger for high hp cars.
