Tunes Safe?
I had a friend who’s opinion was ‘Factory is the hot setup.’ I pretty much agree. That said, do y’all think that ‘tunes’ are safe for the BMW N55? I’m thinking I should leave my 640 GC stock, wait for sanity to return to the used car market and pick up an 850 or M8 GC if I want more power.
Fun fact: The M850i engine makes 523 HP, the M8 617. These are both prime numbers. Given that BMW can tune their engines to any particular HP they want (reasonably) do you think this was intentional? |

Tuning is safe if you want to run OTS. If your looking to make power you would want a custom tune with a PS2 and a fuel pump.

Yes, tunes are quite safe. Especially OTS maps. As long as your typical maintenance items like coil packs, spark plugs, air filter, oil change (and in the case of the N55 the charge pipe) are up-to-date, and you follow proper procedure when flashing the tune maps, you should be good to go.
I've had my 640 flashed for 10 months now and it runs perfectly fine. Might be going to Stage 2+ in a few months, which will bring the power closer to 410 hp and 480 lb/ft of torque. |
