Has anyone done this? Any issues on install. Any special tips? I don't want to end up with airbag issues.

Yea. Have a shop do it.
It is not a clip in. You have to disengage battery and pope out steering wheel to replace the trim.

I made a mistake and tried doing it myself and scuffed the hell out of it and ended up Buy another new wheel because it was so badly scuffed

"I made a mistake and tried doing it myself and scuffed the hell out of it"

How did that happen??

Di dyou do this:

1. Turn the steering wheel so the bottom spoke is on top.
2. On the M6, lower the windows (once the battery is disconnected, the window makes the door hard to open)
3. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery (wait half an hour, just in case) -- This is for Airbag safety
4. Push a screwdriver into the hole in the back of the steering wheel. There is not a screw, just push against a "spring" and the airbag will be fall forward -- leave the wires attached.
5. Remove 2 T-20 torx screws, and gently pull the trim (including the buttons) from the wheel
6. Remove 4 T-20 torx screws, that attach the trim and the pods with the buttons.

btw BMW sells that whole M Performance carbon fiber steering wheel piece separently now so you could just get that...

http://ind-distribution.com/ind/cate...ing-wheel-trim

Also not a huge fan of the silver on the stock wheel, but mixed with the whole carbon piece i think it works. IND also has the option of painting it as well.
