calling UK 640D remaps (Now Remapped)
For the UK guys, as the guys on the other side of the pond dont seem to do the diesel
1.) Have you had yours remapped? 2.) Stage 1,2,3 ? 3.) what power did you make? 4.) notice much difference ? speaking to a local tuner here GAD tuning, they have advised Stock - 313BHP, 630 NM Stage 1 - 360BHP, 700NM (remap only) Stage 2 - 400BHP, 750NM (Remap, Downpipe, Decat, Comp intercooler) Ive had big power cars and TBH im struggling to bring myself to spend £2.3k on the stage 2 as if i wanted something powerful i would have just bought the 650, however the stage 1 (£450)is appealing as i do like a car that pulls in the right rev range etc... (not to say this dosnt, but from factory all cars are pretty reserved) Thoughts?

Stage 1 has been on my to do list since buying the car and the torque increase is very appealing for me in terms of value.
Agree with you on the the stage 2 spend though. Nearly 2k for and extra 40bhp from stage 1 is hard to justify in my book. I’d rather get a new set of 20’s and h&r springs instead for that kinda money. |

I've had my last 3 640d's remapped by DMS automotive. Here's the link:
http://www.dmsautomotive.com/upgrades/bmw-640d-f12/ Although they quote 395bhp mine is over 400+ Paid £900 and they are worth every penny and they really know their stuff. No reliability issues and BMW servicing has never detected it. Worth a look if you want the most bhp for less than a grand.

Really interested in this as I’ve just purchased a pre-reg 640d today. Sorry if I take it slightly off topic but has anyone considered or have experience of the DTUK tri-channel box with this car?

@ coops how do they manage to make so much power? is it simply ECU coding or are they replacing any parts ? those are some impressive figures
ive arranged for it to go into the place on the 18th, will update on how it goes. (will also point the tuner to that DMS site )

All my 640d's have been remapped with no issues, I've run them up to 60k with no loss in power whatsoever and the mpg has improved! The grunt and pull through 50-120 is impressive. When my previous 640 had its software updated by Bmw at a service and wiped the map DMS came out and put it back on free of charge. Follow DMS on instagram to see all the BMW's they tune.. its impressive. When I get my 840d x drive I'll be taking it straight to them, they are already remapping the new G series engines!

Thanks Coops
Looking on the website there's no 640d they have tuned, however there are a a couple 435's that made 387hp (@flywheel) tbh I will be very happy with that. Possibly guy was being conservative with estimates Of to Instagram now |

I'd have thought stage 2 in UK is possible mot failure isn't it? Take it the dpf and you'll likely pump out an exhaust of black soot?
I'm watching this post with interest. I'd subscribe if I knew how. What sort of difference is 70nm of torque and 50bhp going to make to 0-60 times? I'm starting to yurn for more punch out of the blocks. Last edited by elvisisdog; 08-06-2018 at 10:02 AM.. |

ok after some thought and a visit to the garage that was going to be used by the tuner, i decided against GAD tuning, i have now booked for the same date with BTG performance for the same date.
im quite atune to first impressions and tbh the garage that was to be used with my car just wasnt what i had imagined, went and spoke to the guys at BTG (the place looks clean enough to do surgery ) plan is Stage 1 @ 380bhp + 755NM Code out the EGR valve function Before & after rolling road print out http://www.btgperformance.co.uk/ they use Viezu Maps & tweek a little, #cantwait

I hadn't even thought about the EGR valve disconnect. Just done a quick search and it looks like most tunes code it shut 100%. As for dpf, this is just a filter isn't it? Acts like a cat to get rid of the black soot. Hence I was thinking getting rid of the dpf being a possible mot failure now they've gone to the rule on not failure on any smoke coming from the exhaust. Essentially remove the dpf for more free flowing air from the engine.

I think it dumps more fuel through so that it burns at a higher temperature in the dpf. Good point though, it may reduce the lifespan of the dpf. There seemed to be lots of 530d posts on the positive impact of getting rid of the EGR. Some saying 30k trouble free mileage.

I have a remap and it's very nice, no problems at all. The stock car isn't slow, so it's not night and day, but it does pull harder. You need good tyres to get the most from it. RFTs will slip even at 40, 50, 60mph if you give it full throttle on a less than hot dry day due to the torque. I've swapped to Pilot Sport 4S and it's much improved grip. As said, it will pull almost linearly from 40-140 with seamless gearchanges throughout.

so ....
dropped car in at 8:30, and came to collect at 15:00 Pre dyno run Original HP = 306 Orignal NM = 631.7 Very smooth power curves 6 hours or so later New HP = 381.5 New NM = 731.9 Again very smooth curves, will post garage and dyno print outs monday. car drives fantastic, power delivery is still very smooth just more aggressive. 2nd gear is nuts (sooo much torque), 1st is just to spin the tyres and requires some throttle control. Very pleased with the Map & service from BTG EGR valve was electronically shut also.

sports display reads the same, along with the digital clocks in sports mode (i kind of expected this tbh)
quicker 0-60 not sure, the car feels considerably stronger and more aggressive accelerating however could possibly try a 0-60 app not sure how accurate those are, at a guess i would say high 4s 100% recommend a remap transforms the car, Edit, as a note the tuner recommended NOT removing the DPF digitally, it could clog etc... he did recommend removing the DPF with a pipe (which we didnt have or i would have lol ) however this is an MOT failure. mentioned he could have squeezed some more power without dpf
