Anybody ever seen this color before?
I have never seen this color, and googling what they call it does not get any other examples. Anybody ever seen it?

Never even heard of that name. I knew it was individual, as is the interior. Kind of interesting, but I probably would not choose it. I do love the champagne interior though.

I have never seen this color nor heard about this color code definition/name. However when checking the VIN of the vehicle in the auction the following color code is officially listed:
Frozen Black metallic (490) Thus probably (unless the VIN checker is wrong) this color was painted over what the car originally came with. I wouldn't choose this color either for any BMW models. |

Yes you are right the VIN says exactly that. I know what Sonderlackierung means. I thought 490 (as most BMW color codes) could be decoded thus I checked on bimmerarchive.org (https://www.bimmerarchive.org/color/490.html) where the code 490 is listed as Frozen Black metallic (490). Then that is wrong.
Correct is that 490 is always a special paint and then after all the options (need to look down at the very end of decoded VIN) all the "individual" details the car is equipped with are listed. Last edited by FBMWWINS; 01-20-2019 at 01:42 AM.. |

As mentioned in the 2nd post...when you decode the VIN...the "long" list of INDIVIDUAL options is given...the exterior color is listed as:
Sign BMW Individual - 0490 Special Painting - Paintwork Amber Mica Metallic BEN 6713 For those not familiar with VIN decoding sites...here's the decoded VIN of this 6 series and some pics of its awesome interior & rare Individual exterior paint color: https://www.mdecoder.com/decode/d170116

I actually like it, though I don't know if it's something I'd pick for myself. Looks like a natural copper color. Very cool, but not necessarily right for me.

sorta like mine except mine is little lighter. I wanted our color because it was not the run of the mill white or black. But I would not mind that copper color either

It is a one of a kind. The right person might pay 50K+ for it. My guess is that it will take a little while to find that right person. By then, the car may be worth 40-45K. If the seller gets 45-50K now, they should take it, IMO. Definitely a Florida car/buyer. Can't imagine this color up here in Chicago.

Correct. I think that is why anything listed "490" comes up as Frozen Black when it is really just a generic code for Special Paint.
