Reducing noise on cold start

I love my M6 GC, especially with the M Performance (Akra) exhaust but is there any way i can selectively reduce the sound on a cold start - my wife is worried about the neighbours complaining. It’s great but loud - once its warmed up its less obtrusive.

Go visit your neighbours and give them all a set of foam ear plugs. Problem solved!

I have the akra as well and love it!

Can you easily enable/disable? Or is it once it’s tuned out then it’s out?

The whole point of a cold start is to protect your engine against cold oil which isn't doing its job until its warmed up.

Like other have said tuning is the only way. Although I can't imagine someone getting mad over the 20 seconds of cold start. Maybe its different here in the U.S but I think I would really have to try to be the loudest vehicle in my neighborhood between all the Harley and American V8s all over the place.

I can see if maybe you were running straight pipes with no cats... But the cold start on a modern m6 is not that loud at all.

As someone previously commented cold starts are there for a reason (not just to sound cool)

It isn't worth potentially damaging your engine just to make your car sound silent. Not to mention if the car is still under warranty any kind of tune might give you problems.

Cold Start is there to warm up the cats, which aren't effective until they are hot. Delete the cats, get a tune, and you are good to go

Cold start is there because of stupid emissions, its there to get the cats red hot to burn what ever excess fuel there is at startup,I actually think cold start is worse for the engine reving that high on a dry engine ,I would think a slow revving engine at startup is easier on engine bearings

You never heard a M6 with catless downpipes and full Meistershaft exhaust on cold start, loud doesnt explain, more like and explosion for 20 seconds, its that loud! people can't believe until they hear it in person vids dont do it no justice,
I dont think you would hear a Harley next to my M6 on a cold start,I had it coded out via tune I had to neighbors my wife and the paintings on my walls didn't like it

it’s not a deal breaker - just seeing if there is an option where I can occasionally disable it .... but yes it’s not a long cold start.
