good luck
you can try to refer to my case which involved BMW UK and the investigation entailed stripping the engine block down, found one of the cylinder walls and piston rings out of tolerance by slight but was enough to warrant a brand new block which rebuilt into the rest of the engine. took approximately 2 months. |

So BMW National called me today and said basically keep monitoring but that is all they will do. No concession at all.

There was a recent class action against BMW re the infamous "top not locked" defective sensors in the vert tops of e-63s with a decent settlement approved last month. Will look up the plaintiffs firm and forward it to you when I'm in front of a computer - might make sense to talk to them. |

Well 1340 miles went by and then the warning, so back to the dealer again. They said that it passed every test they did, and with BMW National also telling me it is "okay" I guess I will live with it for now, but it will affect my buying decision when i switch next year.

I did, but that is for the N63 engine, not the S63 engine in the M6.
Update: At 52k miles, it seems most of the time the car goes 1350 miles +/- before I have to put in two quarts of oil (free from dealer). Last time was only 1,080, not sure why. I looked at replacement cars and can't seem to find anything that has the luxury and power at the $$ I want to spend. may just end up with a cpo 2017 M6 comp package next year. I have warranty until 10/18 on my 2013 so good for now.

I have only had mine for 2 months but had to top her off after 1200 miles. Performed a full oil change. Waiting for the car to tell me to add oil again and BMW will be able to get an exact number as to consumption. I think it will be well under the 750 mi limit. Don't think they will do anything for me. The SA told me on my last visit even if it's 500 mi/qt they won't do anything. I have a 2014 650ix with the N63T motor which is supposed to be much more reliable. Totally flabbergasted with how they treat there customers. A 100K car and burns a qt every 500mi??? I don't know how they can get away with it. I will never buy another one and will tell everyone I know to steer clear of these unreliable money pits. Good luck with your burner.
Do you drive mostly in sport or comfort mode? Booie |

Booie the 750 mile limit was passed long ago. Initially BMW said there was an issue if you needed a quart every 1,000 miles, then every 750 miles and now its 1.5 liters every 1,000 kilometers (designed to trick metric challenged Americans), which translates to one quart every 421 miles.
They also decided that the original quote capacity was wrong, its 9 quarts not 8 quarts, so whenever the car asks to add one quart, add two. So i go 1100-1300 instead of 550-650 miles between refills. I drive in sport plus ninety percent of the time except in the rain.

I think if you drive in grandma mode( comfort) your oil consumption will be reasonable. If you drive the car like it is supposedly designed for, it DRINKS oil.
I had a 2014 Corvette 6.2L and you could beat that thing constantly and she never needed a drop of oil and never broke down. 100K mile warranty on engine and drivetrain. They should reverse engineer some of these well engineered cars( US and Japanese) and catch up with the competition. Keep me posted. I expect to be going back in for my oil consumption analysis in the very near future and will let you know what crap they tell me this time. Hopefully they will act like a respectable premium Germany auto company and do the right thing for there customers. Time will tell. Good luck, Booie |

Actually my service rep said to drive harder, driving soft is what he thinks increases consumption. I do think a too soft break-in can compound the problem, I am a second owner and based on the prior owner's age and location, I suspect he babied the car.

Totally agree. I've read new cars should be broken in with dino oil for the first 500 miles and to be driven HARD to seat the rings properly. Syn. oil is so slippery it doesn't allow the rings to seat correctly and causes the cyl. walls to glaze. Next oil change will be with Amsoil 5-40. I have had good experience with Amsoil and 5-40 being a little heavier may slow down the oil consumption and improve perf.
All the best, Booie |

I would switch oil as well but the dealer gives me the oil for free, so I just get two bottles every two-three weeks, and not out of the way at all.

Well you may qualify for work, as the cutoff is now 1 quart every 422 miles.
I just had my right valve cover gasket replaced, perhaps that is why I was losing some oil.
