F06 Carbon Filters

What damage can be done if I remove my carbon filter from my 650i? I'm also thinking of aftermarket air filter like MSR. Thoughts?

No damage will be done from removing the carbon filters, many have done it. What aftermarket air filter? Do you have a link? Far as I know there is only one option for an intake for the N63 engine in the 650. http://n63intake.com/

You must be looking at M6 intakes if you're looking at MSR, they do not have one for the N63 as far as I know.

No harm can be done but good thing by removing the Carbon filter.
I don't think it worth of doing air intake.
Better off doing a catless downpipe than air intake.

It can be done.
But I personally don't like the MSR intake design.
I would do Dinan, but after reading the instructions, it require a lot of cutting and butchering the OE parts.
Based on research, the stock intake system and filter is good enough.
On N63tu, what we need is better exhaust flow, that's why I said catless downpipe would be the priority.
I will be doing mine in the next couple weeks. In BBK project currently.

I'm leaning towards the N63 cold air intake system. The stock intake sounds boring lol. I'm new to this, I just purchased my F06 650 in November. I had the SRT Jeep before. Can the catless downpipes void warranty? Which brand will you be purchasing the catless downpipes from?

It would be Evolution Racewerks catless downpipe. This will void the warranty if you get caught. But hey, stock is boring. LoL.
N63 intake should be the same I think.

I have catless downpipe on my 2012 528i, 2014 X5 sDrive35i and soon going in my 2015 650GC.
Brought to dealer to service as is, never have issues. It is not for everybody with faint of heart, LoL. Because if you are scared of getting caught, then you will have heart attack when you bringing the car in for service.

That's crazy! Doesn't the "check engine" light pop up on the dashboard?

Yes, but you can always supress it with some piggy back tune or O2 sensor extension.
I got that taken care on my 528 and X5. I have heard on the N63tu is just by O2 extender.

Are you located in ny? I'm interested doing this to my GC but, I don't trust the shops by me they do horrible jobs. Can you post a vid of your 528 and X5 exhaust note with a few revs?

No, I am in Los Angeles.

From what I have read, you cannot remove the check engine light on the N63/TU and also cars with downpipes have made less power on the dyno than cars with catted DP's. Running the Intake from the link I provided is a great deal for the price they are selling them for considering it's a full cold air intake that runs the filters to the grills and sounds amazing. If the dp's had a solution I would have installed them by now as well, but I never found them to work on this engine because of the lack of tuning options.
