Bmw F06 ambient lighting
Hi guys
I got a Bmw F06 with the dim orange ambient lighting barely visible with the black interior. I saw some aftermarket options for the f10 but I can't find 6 series ones. Does anybody know how to do it with universal led's or maybe a some sort of universal kit on ebay ? I want something similar to the picture below Last edited by mkbycars; 09-06-2020 at 08:56 AM.. |

Very interested as well, with the nightclub interior trend going on, I feel our 6's are a little lacking and as much as I want to play it off as subtle, I want a tad bit more than my B&O white lights and weak amber interior lights, here is what I found on Aliexpress, i think we should shop a round a little for easier installations, but definitely interested to making our interiors pop a bit

I've been looking into this for a while. The 6er uses a very basic 2 wire, single diode ambient lighting system. It was never offered with switchable ambient lighting based on my research.
In BMW tech terms there are three types of ambient lighting: two pin (one colour), three pin (two or three colour) and four pin (ambient lighting with LIN bus). On a 6er even swapping to the two or three colour system would require wiring and coding changes since an extra wire is required by the control module (FRM, FEM, BDC based on car equipment) to change the colour via PWM. While anything is theoretically possible adding OEM switchable interior lighting that can be controlled through iDrive would be challenge. What's the alternative? Replace the fiberoptic strips in the doors with aftermarket light strips with switchable colours and a dedicated remote to control them. I have seen some executions where a single argb controller is used to power lights in the doors and foot wells. If you look at the op's photo you will notice a light strip on the dash below the climate vents, so they probably followed a similar path to what I explained above. Hope this helps :-) |

I know its a matter of taste.... and as they say 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'....
personally I would hate that bright luminous lighting in my F13 650. while yes I agree the 'subtle' or dim brightness of the orange/amber might not be to all tastes for brightness and individuality, I prefer it for 2 reasons, it doesn't distract me when driving at night and BMW have traditionally used amber lighting in their cars as its proven to be less visually staining on the eyes. I would rather my OEM factory set up in my 6er than what is highlighted in the pic above... to me that resembles what I would 'think' a 'cheap strip club interior' looks like just my opinion |
