On the occasion of the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), BMW has announced U.S. pricing for the 2013 BMW M6 Coupe and the 2012 BMW M6 Convertible.

Including destination and handling, the all-new BMW M6 Coupe and BMW M6 Convertible will carry a MSRP of $106,995 and $113,995, respectively.

Compared to the last U.S. price (2010 M6 models) of $102,350 and $108,150 respectively, that's a price increase of $4,600 or 4.5% for the M6 Coupe and $5,800 or 5.4% for the M6 Convertible.

The 2012 M6 Convertible will be first to hit US showroom floors in June with the 2013 M6 Coupe to follow in September (just as with the M5, production of the M6 Coupe starts in July 2012).

Here's a summary of the M6 coupe and convertible in the words of BMW -- "the eagerly anticipated M5 and M6 models are all powered by the most powerful engine ever fitted in a series-produced model from BMW M GmbH – a high revving 560 hp M TwinPower Turbo V-8 mated to a high torque 7-speed M-Double Clutch transmission (M-DCT). It is all connected to an innovative Active M Differential which optimizes power transfer between the rear wheels ensuring the engine’s performance is transferred to the ground. The new engine produces around 10% higher output than the V10 engine of its predecessors and torque is up by over 30%. At the same time, real world fuel consumption and CO2 are expected to be reduced by approximately 30%."

Be sure to check on our HOMEPAGE for our ongoing coverage from NYIAS 2012.

can't see paying $15K more for this over an M5, sure it looks super cool but $15K is a lot of cash unless you are just rolling in it plus the M5 is just so much more practical, if you want a 2 door powerful car, why get one that weighs this much, get an M3 coupe or Porsche...

Having said that, I remember a few years ago when I was looking at used M5s and M6s, they were basically the same price but 1 year apart. I could get a 2 year old M5 for $65K or a 3 year old M6 for that (price is just an example). So new market I couldn't see paying the difference, used market is where things get interesting because I think the M6 loses value faster than the M5 because of the high starting price.

I wonder if this is a sign of the times... Will the F82/F83 M4 pice be 16.6% higher than the F80 M3 since they are now (allegedly) splitting into two different lines?

Honestly I think BMW M's are becoming overpriced. For that money I'll buy a 997 turbo or like new r8. Or even better, buy a house cash and rent it out.

Looks very nice, but I cant justify spending $120k+ when there's so many options out there

Well it sands a chance as long as its significantly less than the V8 Vantage. And realistically a well equipped Carrera S would be about 117k ish. And since according to Hammond the new 911 has been ruined by the steering this should do very welll.

+1. i haven't looked up any residuals or anything, but my impression is that the 6er line up tends to lose value faster than other bmw lines, which usually hold pretty well.

Does anyone know if a 6 speed will be offered for the coupe?
I see a lot of reference to the DCT transmission but not much on a 6 speed

I think at the minimum BMW will double the price difference. Similar to that of the S4 and S5. Around $6k. But I think their goal in the future will be to move the M4 up market and make the price gap even further apart.

Really?

From Hammonds reveiw:

Quote:
The new car is also fitted with *electric power steering. The purists were worried the legendary tight 911 steering would now be as floppy as the elastic on an old pair of pants. They needn’t have worried as the 911 steers perfectly.

He wrote a detailed article on the new 911 for Top Gear magazine. He loves the car.

Okay then why did he flat out say they have ruined it. Granted top gear isn't the most serious automotive source, but I don't think he would be lying about that.

Top Gear S18E04 season 18 episode 4 part 1

Segment 2 roughly 6 minutes in.

Just watched the segment, I have all Top Gear episodes on my hard drive.

Clarkson was the one saying it was ruined. As usual Hammond was defending his favorite car. He said it lost some of it uniqueness, but it was still a fantastic car.

Hammond's full review:
http://www.mirror.co.uk/lifestyle/mo...or-fect-673336

Chris Harris also likes the electric steering. He did a recent review of the new Boxster. He raved about the handling and steering. Hammond and Harris are just cautious praising electric steering, because they don't want to piss off the purists. They choose their words carefully.

The new 911 is brilliant. Ok back on topic, sorry.

If it's between the M6 and the new 911CS then I would go with the 911CS. I'd even take the 997.2 911CS at this price point. M5 is more practical and cheaper and although is the M6 brother it is in a different category of cars and has less and different competition imho.

I think the M6 competes more with the CL63 rather than any porsche, aston martin, or the audi r8. They are both bigger GT coupes that are somewhat heavy and have similar engine output and types of engine.

I talked to a representative on Saturday. He said it will be available next year as they are too busy now.

I sat in the orange coupe with the ceramic brakes and tested the B&O system briefly, the tightness and clarity are well worth the money.
