Bootmod3 license for N63TU - what should I expect to pay/how to get the best deal?

Looking to get a license for my F06 (and price depending one for my wife's F15).

I know retail is $895 for the N63TU. Through the Facebook Bootmod3 group I was referred to a member (Justin) who offered a new license for $800.

A few questions:

1. What is the best price I should look for for a new license?
2. Where to get to the best price on a license?
3. What would be the expected cost purchasing a used license?

Thanks guys/gals!

$800 is by far the cheapest for a new license. You can find some used ones kicking around that can be transferred once. They sell for about $350-400.

It would be interesting to know if somebody who purchased a full new license for a 2nd vehicle was granted a discount over at PTF or asked for this possibility? I'd be interested but of course a transfer license at 1/2 the price is by far the most interesting option.

It depends on the Stage (tune) Level. I flashed Stage 2 on my F32 435iX (N55 engine) and from standard 340 (MPPK) it should be somewhere between 420 and 430. The performance increase is felt immediately. I think it is realistic to say it's very close to stock M4 numbers though I have not logged anything. I always fuel up Shell VPower 100 (100 RON), have replaced chargepipe and turbo to Intercooler pipe as well as the FMIC - all from Evolution Racewerks. Also installed an HJS Downpipe 300er (catted though).

As for the F06 650 car about 80 HP+ are to be expected so I would say in the 520s-530 when it comes to Stage 2. At least that is what they confirmed me when I contacted them but have not purchased it yet.

I bought mine on eBay and waited for themn to do a 20% off promo - best price I could find after watching for a long time. eBay is doing 10% off today if you're wanting to pull the trigger.

There is a Facebook group called bootmod3 enthusiasts - I asked the same question in there and was told to expect about a 100hp gain for stage 1 91oct OTS map for the N63TU engine.

When I asked via email they told me the same +/- 100 HP on Stage 1.
Whereas they confirmed that for flashing Stage 2 catless/highflow downpipes are needed. I wonder if catted one would also do the job along perhaps the Dinan pair of Intercoolers. I would like to stay "legal". Though if the 100 HP gain holds true I say that is plenty of extra power considering you would probably be pairing that with 700-800 NM.
I was looking for a transfer license but have not had luck thus far.

I agree with staying legal. Going catless isn't appealing to me personally - I don't want to pollute more, don't really want my car to sound too loud, don't want the extra expense and finally I don't want to smell raw gas...

One area I'm investigating is whether or not you can use E85 fuel with the N63TU on a stage 1 tune. I believe that you have to go with a custom tune and I even reached out to Cary Jordan (very good and popular bm3 tuner) but he said that he doesn't do custom tunes for this engine. I still have more reading and leg work to do there but from the sounds of it, E85 could give a big jump in HP over a stage 1 tune.

I've been looking for a transfer license as well without any luck.

Those are the exact same reasons why I don't want to go catless - I add here you can incur very high fines too! Thus plenty of reasons.
E85 is not an option here but I could ask someone to customize map a bit more aggressively as I always tank Shell V-Power 100 RON and when In Germany Aral 102. I guess a Stage 1 with perhaps a little more aggressive settings when firing could also make a slight difference when using very decent fuel. But again 100 HP is cool already and quite a gain especially considering it is "only" a Stage 1 tune. On my F32 in order to obtain that kind of gain I went with Stage2 - 300er catted solution though which works very well and is 100% legal. However I gained supposedly around 80 HP.

Good point about the fines. I wouldn't be looking at E85 except for the fact that 91oct is the best I can get in my area short of getting racing fuel.

You could definitely get a custom tune that would (from what I've read) give better output.

My goal is to maximize the power for everyday use, have the ability to on occasion kick it up for racing/timings, keep costs down and just have fun.

When I was looking at buying my 650 I was seriously considering the Alpina B6. I test drove one and the pull it had when taking off was incredible. My only concerns were the turbo lag (really bad) ands the extra 20-25% cost. We put that money difference into getting my wife a loaded CPO 2015 X5!

If I can tune my 650 to match or exceed the power of the Alpina then I would be in heaven...!

I dreamt of the Alpina B6 but a low-mileage and options-loaded one was by far out of my budget! I never drove one I envy you for at least having testdriven it! In the end I chose the 650i as it was the better deal and affordable. I would love to bump the 650i in the same performance range as the B6 for the very same reasons you specified here. Thus with a Stage 1 the car gets closer but does not quite reach that range. As you say an E85 setup or a Stage 2 would most likely do the job and bring you very close to 600 HP putting you right there with the Alpina B6 performance and stock M6 I believe. This is why the BM3 will be my choice and then I can settle for Stage 1 and take it from there.

I share exactly what you stated - you are just like me! I 1st aimed at transforming my 435i in an Alpina B4S..... at least performance wise. Courtesy of Bootmod3 I believe I am there, or almost. While I do not think I am down to the advertised 3,9 sec (0 to 100 km/h) of the B4s, I am there in terms of top speed. The Alpina B4 has an upgraded ZF transmission as compared to the standard 435i/440i models which enables it to reach 660 NM!!! Thus based on this you know with the same HP and with the standard Turbo of the N55 it's impossible I believe to be under 4 seconds.. even with the Xdrive model. In fact I should be around the same specs they have for their RWS and Cabrio models - 4.2-4.3 secs respectively as far as 0-100km/h is concerned. But the BM3 has been a great addition and I love it so far.

Luckily for me the only Alpina B6 that I test drove was a 2015 and its output was 540hp. It wasn't until the 2016 model that they hit 600hp.

My comparison "feel" therefore should be pretty close to the Alpina I test drove once I go bm3 stage 1 91oct!

Yes even the previous Alpina B6 model shows great numbers over a stock 650i. As for the B6S right the 600 HP and a spec at 3.8 secs from 0 to 100 km/h.... are pretty impressive numbers especially if you consider the size of the car! Then again it does 800 NM!!
However with a few hardware mods and good tune a 650 could achieve similar figures I guess. Most expensive would be upgraded turbos I think.

Alright, I was on board paying full paying for a 50-60HP gain. If you guys are claiming around 100HP, this is sort of a bargain if you think about it.

I am guessing everyone does a tune up before they go crazy with tunes? New plugs, new fluids, and then tune?

Hi not necessarily fluids as they do not impact the tune or HP gain. If your oil is "old" then yes it makes sense to change it. But how old the oil is depends also on driving style and not just on the time since last change.
For sure I changed sparkplugs - from the traditional Bosh to NGK plugs gapped accordingly. There is no need to change brake fluid unless the same applies as for the oil. I personally change oil every 12.000-15.000 km max and do not wait for 30.000 km or even close. And I change brake fluid well before the recommended 2-year interval.

As for the 100 HP well I have about 80 HP gain on my F32 (N55 engine with single turbo). Thus on the 650i 100 HP stock courtesy of Stage1 are definitely realistic considering that engine's potential. I will probably get the BM3 for the 6 in spring when the good weather is back and more "fun" can be had.

Best way to go boot mod is buying a used license then transferring over to your vehicle. If not hit Rob (Fsociety) on here and inquire. The numbers you see are being told are reflected numbers with FBO. And car running in tip top condition. (Plugs,Injectors,Coils,Spar Plug Gap,Fuel Setup) etc.
Dont think one is going to add a nice OTS tune on a poorly maintained vehicle and expect high output numbers. You will throw alot of misfiring codes etc.
