These are vacuum actuated butterfly valves that only open after about 3k rpm when there is enough boost pressure! It doesn't matter what setting you are in, efficient, sport or sport plus!
Easiest way is to just wire them open and enjoy the sound! |

Just got this mod done but when I went to film before and after, I saw that flap was already open on idle. Mod was simple and didn't need to lift the car. I needed wife's car so didn't have the chance to experience the difference in the sound yet.
Update: it does sound better around 20-40 MPH. Thanks guys for posting this mod. Last edited by mcho3; 07-01-2016 at 12:34 PM.. |

Completed this mod with the hose clamps yesterday. Took about 15 minutes.
Sound difference is minimal. Deeper note in the lower RPM range but when wide open and hitting the higher RPM, it sounds the same. This is because the Flaps would be open in the higher RPM range anyway due to boost pressure. Cold Start does sound better tho. For $6, this mod is a no brainer. Any additional noise out of the stock exhaust is worth it. |

Reviving an old thread here but just got my M6 recently and did this mod tonight. Videos don't do it justice. The car sounds so much better at lower revs now. Well worth the cost of a couple of hose clamps.

I checked my valves because I was going to start this mod, and my flappers were open at idle on their own. am I missing something here? do they close at some point? just seemed weird to me.

I used strong plastic ties. Crawled under car, used long screw driver to open flaps, tied two plastic tie straps and pulled tight. Open ever since. Its a slight improvement most heard in the garage, but on the open road, barely can tell.

Do they close again when driving slow? I wanted to install the exhaustmeister but if there open all the time after cold start what’s the point |
