Sony tape player? Hundreds of dollars used, wtf? Even found one that's still sealed and they asking for 50k.
I've only seen pics of 8 track cartridges before the coming of cassettes. I've got a cassette player upstairs somewhere with some metal BASF tapes.

... yes, you actually loaded and saved programs using a cassette player/recorder! This bad boy came with a whopping 16kb of RAM.

I've seen it. In the movie Joe Dirt.

All kidding aside, I'm not sure if I've ever held one. Googled it and looks like Nintendo cartridges lol.

My first car had an 8 track player and I updated it to a cassette a year or so later.

The 1966 Mustang was the first car factory equipped with an 8 track. Mercedes had the first factory cassette player in 1971 supposedly.

Philips offered the first non oem cassette player in 1968 prior to any auto manufacturer putting them in cars-

IIRC you recently became interested in the rock band Boston (music thread)? I actually owned one of their albums on 8-track. I guess that qualifies me as being relatively old.

We’re the same age. I honestly didn’t know cassettes existed in ‘71. I had a ‘74 Caddy in ‘80 and it had the 8 track (it was a hand me down from dad) I think ‘78 model year or so was when I first remember cassette players in cars. But I didn’t drive those until the mid ‘80s. Now kids get brand new cars at 17.

Slightly off topic but has anyone ever seen a Mini Disc (MD) player in a car? I saw one in a BMW at a BMW showroom in Tokyo many years ago (90s) and thought it was the coolest thing. I don't think MD ever took off here in the US but I used to own portable MD players and a home audio system with an MD recorder.

I sure did! I also owned a reel-to-reel tape player.
Oh I owned some other classic rock albums on 8-track like Led Zeppelin Houses of the Holy.

I just like the old stuff even from before Boston (bless them). I could say I prefer a 6 cd player in my car rather than a single, which I have now and I'd be considered old by some haha, electronic music from a list? they can keep it.

That's what I'm saying. Why the fuck are cassette players hundreds of dollars? I can't even remember the last time I saw a tape lol.

I just picked up my 2022. It doesn’t have even a single CD player! My last two vehicles had a single, but you could save the CD so no need for a multiple player. It’s less painful because of Satellite radio but still! No, I don’t have music on my phone. WTF?!?!?

I dunno but apparently the cassette tape's inventor died earlier this year. I do not miss those damn things and using a pencil to repair them. Lol.
