How to handle Amazon baby wipes issue?

So just like many other people we've been using Amazon wipes on our toddler. And we've been dealing with weird skin issue for months now, the skin turned brown. We took days off work, saw pediatrician etc. And today Amazon recalled those wipe due to this exact issue due to number of complaints.

Just leave it at refund for product purchased or go further?

I dont have kids(I'm 23 ) but if it were a product I used on my child I'd probably start a lawsuit.

Skin isn't replaceable. Even if it's just skin on the butt that no one will see, It still harmed the baby's skin in some way imo.

Sounds scary and presumably class action suit worthy. If this was purely cosmetic and went away, then I'd be too lazy to start one myself. But depends on how pissed you are and how willing to potentially waste time and money.

Hopefully your child is OK? If so, I would count my blessings and move on with life. The only people who get rich from these lawsuits are lawyers. Keep records and watch the news for the chance to file a claim, but otherwise it's not worth your time or effort.

Yeah that was my thinking. Every time I am a part of some lawsuit, I see clients get 2 dollars and I assume lawyers are making 100s of thousands on it.

Son is fine. I hope it's cosmetic. We've been dealing with this brown skin issue for close to 5-6 months probably. Ended up seeing pediatrician but they had no clue what's going on. Last month we switched wipes to different brand and issue went away, but we had no idea its the wipes because we ended up switching a lot of things (diapers, soap, bathes with baking soda to calm irritation etc). It was a very weird issue that was hard to diagnose the cause. Skin was brown but it wasn't paint or anything, it was some chemical reaction that changed the skin color. And you get pretty concerned due to important and sensitive parts in the diaper area.

Three kids and 12 years of multi daily ass wiping and NOTHING beats these. Hypoallergenic, no scents or perfumes, super soft, etc. DO IT.

How is your child now? Skin still brown? Any rash or other problems? Get your refund and maybe ask for 2X the purchase price. Amazon might give it to you, or the manufacturer might give it to you to avoid a costly lawsuit.

If there are no problems, I wouldn't sue, but that is just my opinion. You don't have to decide now. You have up to X number of years to file a lawsuit. If you're curious or serious, consult a lawyer.

Which wipes are recalled? I can't find any news about the wipes.

He is almost 3. Been using effected batch since about October. Never had rashes, not brown anymore, and it never bothered him. Brown on skin went away as soon as we ran out of wipes and bought Pampers brand. Amazon issuing refund automatically, didn't ask for it.

I wouldn't sue if there isn't any long-lasting damage or side effects.

Personally, I think we sue too often in America, so I am already predisposed to not sue. Like someone else said, the lawyers get most of the money anyway.

It could be that those wipes had a completely innocent quality control issue that wasn't caught. Or it could be that the manufacturer was intentionally trying to cut corners. If it was an innocent mistake, is it worth suing? That is your call of course.

Whomever brings the class action suit will get your info and contact you to be a participant. Generally send back either the info card or respond on some website, and you'll get your $2 x how ever many you bought.

PS, the lawyers make $MM off these. A few 100K isn't worth the effort.

Diaper rash remedy: soak bottom in cooled Rooibos tea for a few minutes between diapers.
Tea is pretty good drinking on it's own as well

Drink the tea first! Use a different batch for the baby.

Just my experience with my 2 boys: Costco wipes are the best. Ive used Huggies, Pampers, Honest, and others, Costco's is the best. Best of luck to you and your kids.

Not sure if this has been answered yet or not, but once you started seeing an issue, why didn't you make a switch sooner?

I see 1 star reviews all the time on Amazon where peeps stick with a product for MONTHS even after their kid started reacting differently to that new product.

Recall aside, everyone is different; sometimes you gotta try a few things before sticking with any make/model diapers, wipes, creams, etc. in order to find what works best.

Hope all is well on your end regardless though.

How were we supposed to know it's the wipes? We used them for nearly 3 years lol. When we started seeing an issue we thought it's the new diapers or some diaper rash. Wipes was the last thing on our mind. They are clear, didn't smell, and were not brown.

I'd go back to your doc now that you know what was going on and ask them. Chances are that some physician has figured out exactly why they caused the reaction, and that would be the best info on whether it is something long term or just temporary. If they DK, a pediatric dermatologist would be likely to have the info. Hoping it is just temporary, lots of things will affect skin tone that aren't harmful or long lasting in any way.

Amazon sent email saying they will cover expenses that people have incurred as a result of those wipes

I am sure it's not an issue. Like I said, it never even bothered him. It bothers me more because well he got men parts there that we were wiping many times per day. Remember that woman that used baby powder and ended up with cancer due to it.....

Well...shit. I ordered a 500 pack of those a while back when the pandemic first started since toilet paper was hard to find. Guess I'll toss them. Only ever used them on myself, and it's not like I have my head that far back to inspect it on a regular basis...
