Like most BMWs, the engines are shared across the line-up. From a mechanical standpoint, it should be similar to others in the line-up with the same powerplant - and the inline 6's are pretty solid. That said, the larger the series number (5, 6, 7, soon 8...) the more expensive they typically get to maintain outside of warranty - just a general rule of thumb. If in doubt, just make sure to get a good after-market (e.g. Fidelity) warranty or CPO car.
