The DME is "moister proofed". If the board damaged or do you have corroded contacts on the connectors.

Unit and engine harness have corrosion. Dealership says I should just trash the car. Are they right?

Was this car in a salt water flood? The ECUs are around $3K each and the plugs will have to likely be replaces as well. You could try some "jewelry" cleaner (tarnex or equivalent) on the contacts and connectors. If you can get them clean, spray on WD40 or some other form of corrosion protection.
