Hope you don't mind columns in the garage because you're going to need 7 ton steel beams just to carry those spans (or stupid expensive deep bar joists).

Not sleeping in the same room as where your cars are?

Funny post. I’ve been thinking about the next house which needs a far larger garage. It’s going to be a final house for me so I prefer it to be pretty much designed all first floor.
I’ve been debating 3 car garage + double deep or 4 car and two cars deep. Definitely needs room for lifts though to be able to expand as the collection grows. |

https://m1concourse.com/garages/ Not too far from us too bad you can’t actually live in it but you do get 24/7 access owning one. That’s where my loft idea from when we build our house around the garage…..one day |

In all seriousness I have given a lot of thought to building a garage-house. The problem is you drastically narrow down clients for resale, especially if you have a wife.
My design is a 60' square structure, built like a modern office building. Two floors, both concrete. Bottom floor is the garage with a 14' ceiling, 40 feet deep. The other 20' to the back wall is the master bedroom (20' x 20') with large bath (20' x 15') and a shop room (20' x 15'). The bedroom has a large window of electric opaquing glass overlooking the garage, as does the bathroom. The shop has a large regular glass window. The 40' x 60' garage has three 16' wide bays, but double deep. The three 16-foot-wide garage doors are the old-fashioned 1950's gas station kind with integrated glass panels. Standing view in the front of the house, the left bay has a steel grate floor w/drain and functions as a wash bay; behind that is a car parking spot. The center two bays are front and back car parking spots; so the back two bays can be overlooked from the bedroom. The back right side bay is for a two-post car lift (just outside the shop room), the font-right bay is a car parking spot. Above the garage doors are three large windows. The garage space is heated and airconditioned of course with separate venting system from the living space. And a Halon system for fire suppression. Upstairs, the 60' x 35' living space is mostly open with a canted, pentagon-shaped 12' ceiling (an ode to a hemispherical cylinderhead ). Kitchen in the right rear. Laundry room to the left of that. Second bedroom with shared bathroom to the left of that. Off in front of the open kitchen is a dining room. In front of the 2nd bedroom is the audio-visual Man Cave. The wall of the front of the upper living space, at the 35' mark, is again large panes of electrically opaquing glass to overlook the garage space below. There is compressed shop air all throughout the house, both in the garage and living spaces, along with a central vacuum system. Outside of the house is Hardi-Plank siding and a steel roof and soffits (like my garage is now...). Presented this design to my wife about 25 years ago. While she's cool with my car guy life, the answer came back... NO!

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Wait….are we talking about house resale or wife????? Funny my wife honestly would completely go for the detached garage house if it was in the budget, only problem for her it’s not an incentive for her to kick me out of the house at that point for misbehaving.

Yeah, saw something like this. It was an airplane hanger with a few rooms.
google "airplane hanger houses". And you can store cars there.
