Improving Exhaust Sound

So my 2013 650xi has a "dual mode" exhaust that opens a less back pressure path for exhaust gases under certain conditions of high power operation. Can someone explain how that system works or provide a link to information on that system? I'm also wondering if there is an easy way to manually control the exhaust note or just permanently put the system into the "high power", more aggressive sound mode? I'm not interested in changing out the current mufflers. Thanks in advance.

They have a device called exhaust meister that allows you to manually control open/close with a remote. PM, I have mine for sale. I got an aftermarket exhaust and no longer needed it (Like New). You can always just use the zip tie mod to always have it open. Do a search

before i swapped out the mufflers, i used metal/aluminum wire and wired the exhaust valve to be open all the time. goto a local hardware or auto parts store, they sell metal wire in a roll. you'll have to manually open the flap/valve and literally wire/tie the plunger so it stays open on all the time. its slightly louder and noticeable from the outside, but you wont really notice a difference from inside. i couldnt really get a zip tie to hold the plunger open, the spring has alot of tension and i figured the exhaust gets really hot as well so i just wired it.

Resurrecting an old thread (required for my first post).

I've had my 2014 M Sport Convertible for about 6 months now. Love the car, but I would like for it to have a slightly more aggressive exhaust note. As with the OP, I don't want to install aftermarket.

Will using the zip-tie mod throw any codes? Also, will it have any damaging effects on the servo/actuator long term?

I tried the zip-tie method and it sounded better outside but I didn't like the drone inside the car so I cut the zip-ties off. This is my luxury car and it doesn't have to sound like my Corvette.

No codes with the zip-ties.

Having previously owned a C5 Z06, I am very well acquainted with drone! LOL That car had a fairly loud exhaust from the factory. That coupled with weight saving methods including the absence of sound deadening materials made for a raucous ride. Certainly don't want to experience that again, but I may try the zip-tie trick just to see how it is.

It wasn't real bad but to me it's just a very uncomfortable sound and not something you want in such a luxury car as the 650. For some, it can't be loud enough.

1st off - used to own a C6 Z51 so I'm part of the Vette club too
Regarding the zip ties, I've had them on my 650 GC for about 4 years now (I no longer own the Vette, so this is my sports car). When in comfort mode, it does indeed drone. However with a quick switch into sports mode, the revs increase and the engine climbs out of the drone range, and it sounds great!
