2014 M6 Gran Coupe Continues Testing Ahead of Next Year's Launch

It's been a busy few testing days for BMW at the Nurburgring and we've spotted the M6 Gran Coupe continuing its testing, just days after BMW acknowledged that the flagship M model will be coming next year. It will likely arrive as a 2014 model year and see its auto show debut at the 2013 NAIAS in Detroit or the 2013 Geneva show. Expect the first details of the car to be announced online by the end of this year.

The M6 Gran Coupe will be powered by the same S63Tu engine as the M5 and M6, but possibly be introduced with a bit more power than the 560hp of the M5/M6. Prototypes have been spotted testing with and benchmarked against M5s (video below). A 7 speed DCT transmission will be available and no word yet on a possible manual option. That decision probably lies with whether a manual will be made available for the M6 coupe and convertible (which they currently are not offered with).

The M6 Gran Coupe will feature the same front and rear design as the M6 Coupe and Convertible and will have a similar carbon fiber roof to the one on the M6 coupe (see our previous renders).

The M6 Gran Coupe's price will start north of $100,000 as the M6 coupe and convertible start at $106,995 and $113,995 USD. Expect the Gran Coupe's price to top both the coupe's and convertible's pricing.

Nice....

Perhaps it's few busy testing days for BMW before the N-Ring goes bankrupt and they close it since there are talks circulating about possible closure or bankruptcy of the Ring (see http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=719467).

Going to be a sweet car, however you can really tell it's tossing around some weight, the car seems to lumber around and does not look super agile.

I hope BMW knows that this car has to have a significant performance advantage over the M5 to justify its price.

The new 6 Series in all its versions is ir sure one of the best looking cars that have been released in the last decade.

However, am I the only one who thinks that the rear end of it is a perfect 10 and the front is like a 6? BMW manufacturing please put your Continuous Improvement to workan even more buyers would come!

Meh........

Oh wait, here comes Judah to tell me how wrong I am....

And yet little does he know I would take a 760Li Msport over EVERY other car in the world. And it is well over a 100k. But it IS a 7 series after all.....

Sadly, he thinks the 6 series is priced perfectly.......

So sad......

Not really. M6 GC owners aren't typically headed to the track after the break in period. This is a car for the well-heeled enthusiast, or those looking for a bit more fashionable sedan.

If you can swing a $125K car, you can buy 911s, Panamera Turbos, etc. all day long, which would dominate an M6 GC.

And M5 owners are?

Also, I wouldn't know why a Panamera Turbo would dominate the M6 GC. More like opposite. You will need a Turbo S, and even then, with the rumored power upgrade, no 4 door will dominate it.

No, but my point was that the M6 doesn't need some type of substantial performance gain over the M5, because M6 owners aren't typically looking to eek out the very best in power vs. similar sized cars. It's more about style and/or features.

I meant to say the Turbo S would be the car that (should) prove to have superior performance.
