BMW M6 Gran Coupe Confirmed for Next Year

That a BMW M6 Gran Coupe is coming is no surprise. Afterall, we've posted several rounds of spy photos and videos of the soon-to-be flagship M model.

However, BMW has now finally officially acknowledged the model to be coming next year (US and worldwide). It will likely arrive as a 2014 model year and see its auto show debut at the 2013 NAIAS in Detroit or the 2013 Geneva show. Expect the first details of the car to be announced online by the end of this year.

As the M6 Gran Coupe will utilize the same S63Tu engine as the F10 M5 (although the M6 Gran Coupe may be introduced with a slightly uprated power figure from the M5's 560hp), it's previously been spotted testing with and benchmarked against M5s (see video below). Its S63Tu engine will be mated to BMW's 7 speed DCT transmission. No word yet if a manual option will be made available, thought that probably lies with the decision on whether a manual will be made available for the M6 coupe and convertible.

The M6 Gran Coupe will feature the same front and rear design as the M6 Coupe and Convertible and will have a similar carbon fiber roof to the one on the M6 coupe. We've posted some of our recent renders and previous spy photos below as a preview of how the M6 Gran Coupe will look.

The M6 Gran Coupe's price will start well north of $100,000 as the M6 coupe and convertible start at $106,995 and $113,995 USD. Expect the Gran Coupe's price to top both the coupe's and convertible's pricing.

I'm guessing it will be priced between the Coupe and Convertible just like its non-M counterparts?

Article says it should be priced higher than coupe and convertible.

Can't wait to see this car. Love the Gran Coupe already. An M version is going to be one of the most desirable Ms.

The 640i is already extremely overpriced. BMW stupidly decided to price it 5k more than the CLS 550 (V8) and 16k more than an A7 (3.0 Supercharged 6). I'm as much of a BMW fan boy as the next guy, but I'd take a loaded A7 over a base 640i any day...

Is there any competition (in the same price range) for the Gran Coupe? the CLS63 is well below its price (that competes with the M5 in price). Panamera maybe?

I agree with others "what was BMW thinking" when they priced this thing out? I guess they want it to be as rare as the Z8 was! I would have thought the A7 and CLS550 would compete with the 650i gran coupe but the BMW is $10K+ more than both of them. So who really was BMWs target market here?

Good question. The 6 coupe/vert and GC are well over priced.

That steep price doesn't bode well for the M4 Gran Coupe :\

I agree that its too much money... I LOVE the GC. Im sure the M will be a great car, but i just dont see how someone takes that over a CLS63... 125m is big bucks and Panamera Turbo range.

I don't like the shape (door flared out like that into the front fender). No matter, I would never spend that kind of money for four wheels anyway

Says might have more HP than the F10 M5. If its 600HP might be the reason for the price. Either way lots of rich people that will still buy this as its a beautiful car and will beat most (if not all) of its competition.

That would make such a minimal amount of sense if the non-M is priced in between the coupe and vert. I dont believe that part of the article

Pretty much a supercar. Priced so that about six people will be able to afford one.

Mercedes-Benz CLS550: $71,300 base price with 402hp, 443lb/ft of torque
BMW 640i Gran Coupe: $76,000 base price with 315hp, 330lb/ft of torque

And don't think the BMW is better equipped, because it isn't.

Long story short: I want some of what BMW is smoking
