Cool New Preview Images of 2013 M6 Gran Coupe

BIMMERPOST NEWS
New Preview Images of 2013 M6 Gran Coupe

COMMENTS

The 2013 M6 coupe and 2012 M6 convertible have now made their world premieres and North American premieres, which brings us to the M6 Gran Coupe as the next M6 variant in the pipeline.

We've already seen plenty of the spy photos/videos of the M6 Gran Coupe, which together with the already revealed production 6-series Gran Coupe (photos 1, photos 2), gives us a very accurate idea of what the M6 Gran Coupe will look like. We previously posted some front and rear renders (reposted below) and we now present some side views.

The M6 Gran Coupe will wear the same front and rear end design as the M6 Coupe and Convertible, only with 2 more doors and a longer body. We've also included the sporty carbon fiber roof from the M6 coupe in these renders.

The M6 GC will directly challenge the 2012 Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG. What will the M6 GC bring to the shootout? Expect it to utilize the best BMW has to offer in terms of quality of materials and the best powertrain BMW is capable of developing currently. The M6 coupe and cabrio are powered by the M5's S63Tu engine, a twin-turbo 4.4L V8 which produces 560HP. However, for the M6 Gran Coupe, rumors have pointed to a potential power bump of 20HP to the 580HP ballpark. If true, this would be a fitting leading power figure for a flagship M car. Power will be delivered via a standard 7-Speed DCT transmission.

As for pricing? The M6 Gran Coupe will start well north of $100,000. BMW NA recently announced the pricing for the 640i, 650i, and 650i xDrive at $76,895, $87,395 and $90,395, respectively and the M6 coupe and convertible were announced at $106,995 and $113,995.

The M6 Gran Coupe's premiere should come in the second half of this year (in the Fall), we believe.

Except for the fact that it is prob going to start north of $120K, given the recent f12/13 m6 pricing... thats a 30 grand difference in base price.

I guess this is gearing up for competition with the panamera turbo or mercedes CL63 AMG. I don't see how it will compete with the CLS or RS7, which will undercut the price by a LOT.

With the base of the M6 convertible being 114k This will probably be around 120k base.

So 30k difference between the 90k base M5. Thats 1/3rd the price of a base M5. It shouldn't hurt M5 sales.

The head of BMW M already said they were not going to play with the numbers, the M5/M6 produces 560 HP, PERIOD! It was from the interview with him posted on this website, he pretty much confirmed the M6 GC will have the same 560 HP as the M5 and M6 do... Unless they are going to offer some sort of performance package that adds the power, but I don't see the base version getting the bump.

Also how does anyone consider this a competitor with the CLS63? Maybe if they made a CLS65, the CLS63 starts at under $95,000, you can't be considered a competitor when you are priced 20% higher!

Then I'm not terribly convinced BMW will be able to command that price point competitively. A $120K V8? That's Aston/Maserati money.

I know these are renders, but aren't BMW rear brake calipers on the inside of the rotors vs the outside towards the bumper?

I don't think this will necessarily be the case. The 6 series GC models are priced in between their corresponding 6 series coupe and 6 series convertible counterparts.

An M5 with all the options and TTL will touch 100k easily, especially with the ceramic brakes. For someone already shopping for a six figure car, they will probably go with whichever has the most emotional pull for them.

I agree M5 sales will remain strong, but the M6 GC is going to sell very well too IMHO. In fact, it is 760i or Alpina B7 sales that I see being more impacted here. Those are still great cars too, but this new M6 GC will create a halo unlike anything other 4 door luxury car out there IMHO. A Panamera Turbo S for so much less money, and for all those that just can't stomach that car's funky look. This is a true beauty.

The 6 GranCoupé is priced slighty under the 6 Convertible, so the M6 GranCoupé will be about the same or slightly more, if it gets more power and so better performance. The M5 F10 sales won't be hurt, but the M6 F08 is going to be a halo 4 door car like no other. Even the Aston Martin Rapid will be inferior.

640i Coupe: $74,495
640i Gran Coupe: $76,895
640i Convertible: $81,995

650i Coupe: $83,895
650i Gran Coupe: $87,395
650i Convertible: $91,395

650i xDrive Coupe: $86,895

650i xDrive Convertible: $94,395

M6 Coupe: $106,995
M6 Gran Coupe: $110,995 ?
M6 Convertible: $113,995

Of course, if they give the M6 GC 580hp, they may use that to justify a higher MSRP. But I am a little skeptical that will come to pass. Or they could price the M6 GC ahead of the M6 Convertible just because they feel they can command that price, or by adding more standard equipment (standard carbon ceramic brakes would sure do it, eh?). But again, I don't think it will necessarily be.

You maybe could get them as a special order, but I think only as OEM parts, because I know the M6 GranCoupé will have some exclusive rims, don't know if its these.

I hope the pricing structure will remain within this pattern. That would be so SWEET!!!! I would definitely consider the M6 GC over the M5. What an awesome car. Going to the NY auto show tomorrow to check out the M6's!!! Love that coupe'.
