2013 M6 Coupe and Convertible US Pricing to be Announced with 2012 NYIAS

We previously reported that the 2013 M5 (F10) US pricing will be announced upon the 2012 NYIAS which takes place the first week of April. We've now learned that the 2013 M6 Coupe and 2012 Convertible [official info] US pricing will also be released at the same time.

The 2012 M5 was recently announced for the Canadian market at a starting price of $101,500 CAD. Expect the US pricing for the 2013 M5 to be somewhere in the high-$80k to mid-$90k range. And if the previous generation M5 and M6 pricing provides any guidance, the 2013 M6 coupe and 2012 cabrio may be at least 18-20% and 25-27% higher than the 2013 M5 price.

The 2013 M5 and M6 coupe will launch to the US market on roughly the same schedule - with production beginning in July, for September deliveries. The 2012 M6 Convertible will be the first to arrive in US BMW Center showrooms this June.

The new M6 cabrio will make its world premiere at the 2012 NYIAS.

I love the front end of this car, still not sold on the rear though. With so many parts shared with other cars its seems like its getting harder to justify an extra 20% over the M5?

What's sad is that in Canada, a M3 that's lightly optioned becomes the same price or higher than a base M5 if the estimates above are accurate.

The Canadians I know understand why BMWs cost more... on this forum all I ever read is people whining about it.

Cars cost more in Canada because the sales volume is less- what that means is that each car has to absorb more of the overhead.

Overhead in car land- support staff, office staff, office space, warranty, advertising, government mandates (emissions/crash tests), dealer incentives and a boat load more. You do realize that there is an entire headquarters in Richmond hill with people in it that get paid, electric bills, etc.?

The US sells more in one month sometimes than Canada sells in an entire year.

That is why it is cheaper to buy in the US... not even going to get into the whole purchasing power explanation and why currencies that may exchange higher do not always buy more goods/ services- read up at the Economist for that topic.

In the end Canada will always pay more per car it is a smaller market.

Last time I checked Canadians also had some form of medical insurance- that is truly unfair to tens of millions in the US. Different countries different issues and markets; not the same.
