BIMMERPOST NEWS Full 2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe U.S. Price List Guide UPDATED WITH FULL US PRICE LIST (Below) Original Price Announcement
BMW Announces Pricing for All-New 2013 640i Gran Coupe 09.02.2012 2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe priced at $76,895 Woodcliff Lake, NJ – February 9, 2012… BMW of North America today announced pricing for the all-new 2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe (official info/media). The $76,895 (including $895 Destination and Handling Charge) TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder powered 640i Gran Coupe is the initial model of the range, and arrives early this summer. Later in the summer, the TwinPower Turbo V-8 powered 2013 BMW 650i Gran Coupe and the all-wheel drive 2013 BMW 650i xDrive Gran Coupe will join the line. Pricing for the V-8 powered models will be announced closer to the time of launch. The BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe is a new 4-door, 4+1 seat addition to the 6 Series line that successfully combines the stunning proportions, design and driving dynamics of the 6 Series Coupe with interior room and amenities for up to five passengers. Harmonious proportions, precise lines and sleekly contoured surfaces give the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe the unique ability to satisfy the driver who wants a luxurious and sporty coupe yet needs a car capable of carrying four adults in comfort and luxury. The all-new BMW 6 Series Gran coupe will make its world debut at the Geneva International Auto Show in March and its North American premiere at the New York International Auto Show in early April. The 640i Gran Coupe will also be previewed at the Amelia Island 2012 Concours d’Elegance in Amelia Island, Florida from March 9-11. See our Official BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe Thread for all official info and media. |

So,
640i GC (starting price incl. destination & handling charge): $76,895 740Li (starting price incl. destination & handling charge): $76,395 740i (starting price incl. destination & handling charge): $71,895 640i coupe (starting price incl. destination & handling charge): $74,495 640i cabrio (starting price incl. destination & handling charge): $81,995 ^ all 315hp Panamera (300hp; starting price incl. destination & handling charge): $76,175 Panamera S (400hp; starting price incl. destination & handling charge): $91,275 CLS 550 (402hp; starting price incl. destination & handling charge): $72,175 A7 3.0 TFSI Prestige (310hp; starting price incl. destination & handling charge): $66,455 So, 640i GC price positioning is on the same level as same / similarly powerful 740Li & Panamera. So, a whole price bracket above CLS & A7. This makes 6er GC a Panamera rival, not CLS & A7 competitor. |

For reference, a base 535i is $52,500 and a base 640i coupe is $73,600. Looking at EnI's numbers, a CLS550 makes the most sense. Less money, the highest HP, and I think it's the best looking, too

My guess is that to equip a 650i GC to level of my 550i will put it at $105k. At that point you would be in CLS63 AMG territory.

Its a question of exclusivity as much as anything, these wont be around in large numbers, and im sure there will be a market for it especially with the success of the Panny as this beats it in the looks depo hands down. Id also say that while it may not be the best performer in the class by the numbers, that is not its intended goal, this is a sporty-luxury cruiser and 400+hp is more than enough power for 99.9% of the potential ownership population (the remaining 0.01% will be covered by the M 6GC variant)

Of course you are right, but this is not about value for money.
It's all about style, looks and exclusivity. That's what you pay for, if that's your priority

Honestly, I'm waiting for the 650i GC. Probably will start around the $85k mark. I'm definitely going to the Concours D'Elegance in Amelia Island to see this car and I've already booked my trip to NYC for the auto show in April. This car is leaps and bounds beyond the CLS and A7, IMO. Bet the M version will be unbelievable.

So does that mean that the forthcoming 435i/440i GC will be more expensive than the 535i?

I just can't get with the price spread between one of these and a 5 series. Why are these $20,000 better?

Probably...just look at it this way, im moving to the 335i Msport when it comes out in Sept, and based on the build sheet of the 335i today, and adding in additional costs for the msport options, the msrp is close to $60K, so yes, you can buy a 3er thats just as much if not more than a 535i, so certainly the 435 GC will be in the 60s and im sure it will be in the higher end as it will probably offer options not available on other lines..
