ordered from FCPEuro (got redirected to their website from ETK). The controller was $600 and the touch countrol unit was $60. I installed and coded myself today...took me about 2 hours being extra careful removing the center console trim. works perfectly! |

Congrads - nice job installing yourself. Not sure I would be that adventurous. 2 questions - Did you get the ceramic version, and could you please give me the BMW part numbers so I can be sure I order the right ones. Thanks again. |

I did get the ceramic version and here are the part numbers: Idrive controller touch: 65829327170 Controller touch control unit: 65829338800 The touch controller still does not appear under the 6 series diagrams (or was not there a week ago) so I took the part number from the F10... the idrive controllers are the same. Good luck if you decide to go with it and let me know if any doubts. Here's a picture of the final product |

Terrific job. See your in S. Florida- I am in Gainesville. Would love to pay you to do it for me if we were closer! How big a job was it to swap controllers - how much trim did you have to remove? And where did you get the coding info? I had remote coding done last month, but don't think the gentleman had the code for the touch controller. Joe |

I don't think it's a too much of a big job; the hardest part is maybe the wiring: you have to connect the touch control unit to the touch controller wiring. In my case luckily I always save whatever spares remain after I finish a job so I had a connector that fit perfectly on the control unit and just had to tap the wires to the controller's end; otherwise some welding would be needed.
Then to access the controller you need to remove 4 panels (2 on each side), the wood trim that surrounds the gear shifter and finally the leather-trimmed piece that houses the controller. Codingwise you need to change 4 values; those are available on "the other forum"...I saw you posted there today, it's at the beginning of that same thread. credit to Milkyway! Have a look at this post - it gives you all the information you need to remove the trim to get to the i-drive controller:

Upgrade completed!
With the help of the above post to be able to install the controller without breaking anything when removing the trim off the console, I was able to install and code in less than an hour. Half of that time went into trying to recover a dropped screw near the gear shifter.
Used controller from eBay (ceramic) $180 Module from ECS tuning (bought the Mini one, it's $15 cheaper, same part) $70 "Y" cable from eBay (shipped from China) $18 Coded myself Total cost lessthan $300. Nice to have, not absolutely necessary but way cool. Anyone looking into doing this, it's is relatively easy. Cheers.

A) realoem and other sites states that the i-drive controller is not compatible with my car, is this true? B) I'm guessing I'd need the idrive controller, the touch module and the 'Y' cable Alongside coding to get it work? These are the bits I'm looking to purchase; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172767038441 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262865192798 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201967804693 Would I need anything else to get this touch controller fitted and working (apart from the coding) Could somebody also shed some light on the coding side, complete newbie to coding, have brought the neccessary enet cable and installed e-sys; and that's it. Many thanks |

A) It will show as non-fitting because that year the touch controller was not available on the 6er.
B) yes, those 3 items are the correct ones. Coding can be found on the other forum, just goggle "F06 touch retrofit" it's the first result I did not do the additional CAFD and other recoding as BMWAK suggested above. Everything works, but I may have background error codes because I took my car to service and they replaced the seat belts which require a software update and they could not do it according to the service advisor because of the retrofit. Go figure. BMWAK, do you mind sharing the changes that would be needed in addition to the coding on the other forum?

The links on ebay are all compatible with each other? it's a real minefield trying to find the correct touch controller. I've looked on the other site and the coding side doesnt look as straight forward as i'd hoped. Going to give it a shot though.

Based on the info given in the part database...the answer would be NO. The build date range is listed not just for the part nbr you inquired about...but for other part nbrs that were superseded. It appears the part can be used starting with some models that had a 3/2014 build date-up. If your 2013 M6 was built in March 2014-up...then it would be plug-n-play.

Does anyone know where the touch module is located? I couldn't find it.
It works like a normal iDrive without the touch function if plugged in without the module. I am surprised is plugs in the non touch wiring. Update: I figured it out. The touch module is an add on, lol. I thought it was replacing a non touch module. Makes sense for the Y cable. Last edited by R0N; 12-12-2020 at 02:31 AM.. Reason: Corrections |
