Recommendations? Wish to install larger sidewall tires. 255/35R20 to 255/40R20

I have a 2016 Alpina B6 and wish to install tires with a larger sidewall than what's at spec for my vehicle due to potholes and such. At spec, what is recommended are 255/35 20FR, and 285/30 20RR. However, I am considering 255/40 and 285/35, or even 265/40 and 295/35 if it is possible.

Can anyone recommend this setup? or will it just not work?

Thank in advance!

The important thing is making sure the circumferences are the same ratio as the OEM tires. If not, it will mess with your traction and stability control.
255/40/20 is 742 revolutions/mile
265/40/20 is 734 " "
255/35/20 is 770 " "

265/35/20 is 761 " "
295/35/20 is 740 " "
285/30/20 is 777 " "

ratio 1 - 0.975
ratio 2 - 0.9918
ratio 3 - 0.99099

ratio differences should be less than about 2% from what I remember

Almost everyone I know had issues with their xDrive if they went wider than stock. Even keeping within the 1% xDrive rolling diameter always seems to cause some issue/bug. In the end we all stayed with the stock sizes and headaches went away.

Does this matter on a non x-drive? I currently have 275/35/20R and 245/30/20 F. I'm looking to move up to 295/305 is that possible?

Non xDrive you can do basically anything you want. If it fits your rims, fenders etc go for it.
