Drive or Fly?
I’m planning a trip to the rural area near Portland at the end of September and I am considering driving my 6 GC. I have never enjoyed flying and the idea of getting on a plane with its closed ventilation system, possible Covid carriers and authoritarian flight attendants makes me even less inclined to get on one.
It’s about 950 miles each way. My plan is to split the drive into two days, stay with my friends for a few days, and then return. I love driving the 6. I’m a little concerned about putting so many miles on the car at once, but then again, why else own it? What do y’all think? |

Drive it...this type of trip is what this car was designed for...its a "grand touring" car...made to eat up miles of highway.
I just did an approx 800 mile journey (round trip) back in July and loved every minute of the drive. Got a chance to give those booty massaging pads a workout. Just take your "mask" with you...and you can hang it from the rear view mirror while tooling along the road...no need to have to wear it while inside the car....then just put it on when you need to exit the vehicle to buy gas or stop at a public rest area.

Suitability for road trips was the main criteria when I bought my car. They are just about my most favorite thing to do. I drive everywhere if I can, Covid or not. In my life I have driven 500 or more miles in a day more times than I can count - 200 times at least. So I vote to drive.

Do it!
I've done plenty of road trips in my 6er. Just did one up to Oregon(Crater lake), putting 1650 miles over 4 days.
Don't worry about putting too many miles on it. These long road trips are where the 6 excels. The pure joy of driving a nice car supercedes any perceived depreciation. You'll enjoy both the drive, and arriving refreshed. Good luck! |

We had to go to Baltimore at end of July. We drove 6er up and back, over 1,000 each way. Stopped halfway both times.
What I learned: 1. Good mpg, only had to stop once for gas 2. Car will tell you to take a break! 3. We didn't stop enough to stretch (covid fears) and packed lunch so we were a little sore by day two 4. Run flats suck 5. I added mmi to use waze on the big screen. Wasn't as helpful as I would have liked. 6. Despite covid traffic was a major issue, adding an hour day one and and hour and half coming home. last day I averaged 85 on clear roads and made up that hour. 7. Police presence was nil, but I did run escort redline (except in Virginia)
