My 640d GC Build

Thought I'd create my own thread on here to showcase modifications and talk about my car! I've owned a few E90's, an F30 and also an F10 - I spent most of my time over on F30 Post.

(Apologies in advance as I know I'll waffle on)

Bit of background... My previous car was an F30 335d and it was great, bonus of it being x drive too! Only thing was I found it a bit on the small side in the cabin but the engine made up for it. I considered an F10 535d but after driving a few, it just didnt feel wow (strange as I loved my first F10). My wife suggested looking at the F06. I don't know why I didn't think of it... After looking at a few I'd made my mind up it was the car I wanted! I was all set to buy one but on close inspection, the driver side seat leather was all worn and that put me straight off.

I told myself to wait and the right car will come along. After a few weeks it did! Soon as I saw it on BMW AUC website, it was the one I was after. It had a few extras that I wasn't bothered about but coming from a very well specced F30, There was a few things that was a must. There seem to be very few 640d's with HUD and SLI.

I'm glad I've found the perfect car for me. It makes me smile everytime I get in it. My F10 gave me the same feeling, but this was something the F30 was missing - that wow factor. Feel great to be back in a RWD

I've already started the modifications:

- 12mm and 15mm Eibach Spacers
- Celtic Tuning Remap

Future Mods planned:

- Michelin pilot 4S tyres
- Maxton front splitter
- Maxton side blades
- Maxton side rear diffuser/blades
- M6 style double slat grill
- M6 style boot spoiler
- Tinted rear lights and reflectors
- Tinted Front Window
- De-chrome door handle trim
- De-chrome wing/fender trim
- LED reverse bulbs
- Eibach lowering springs (not sure how it affects VDC)
- 20" Borbet GTX alloys or similar

Speed Limit Information.

Shows it on the HUD and also in the Instrument Cluster

Very nice indeed!

When I was looking for something to replace my E39 540 6 spd, BMW's just weren't exciting me anymore, until I looked into the 6 series. It truly is the car I was waiting for.

Here's mine, prior to the M6, it was one of the best all rounders ever, i wanted to get white out of my system but find myself wanting white again

great looking car and nicley spec'd, i also foud it a nightmare to get a decent spec one when i bought mine almost 2 years ago now. I have a feeling my M6 G journey will begin in april

Mods Update...

While we are all in this pandemic and spending alot of time at home, i've been collecting parts and have used the time to mod the car some more.

Mod list so far now:

- 12mm and 15mm Eibach Spacers
- Celtic Tuning Remap
- Maxton front splitter
- Maxton side blades
- Maxton side rear diffuser/blades
- M style double slat grill
- De-chrome door handle trim
- De-chrome wing/fender trim
- 4" Exhaust Tips

You mentioned you bought it under uk AUC. Since you have remapped it have you gone in for anny warrenty work.. do you plan to re chrome the small m badges on wings ?


I bought my 640d in November and brought it back to dublin.

Really paranoid about the AUC and modifying the car. Dealers will use any excuse not to stand over it

I had really thought about the wing m badges! Good shout.

As for warranty work - The car has been in several times for vibration issues, the master tech has drove the car several times too. No issues. Just waiting for my wheel replacement now when all this crisis is over.

There is a post on here somewhere where someone rempapped their car and asked BMW FS if it was allowed. They were told that it was fine aslong as the car was put back to standard once it was due to be handed back. Mine is not on PCP so that doesn't apply. Same goes for servicing. You can get it serviced elsewhere, but keep your warranty intact, they need to use BMW genuine parts. Just means you won't have FBMWSH... just FSH.

So far I have had no issues with the remap. The N57 is used across many models and I think the tuners out there have kind of mastered it. I went to Celtic Tuning as they have done many 335d's, 435d's and 535d's. This gave me comfort in my decision. Plus they came highly recommended on this forum.
