replacing of armrest lock - F12

Does anyone have experience changing the armrest lock on a F12 or similar?

I went to the stealer today... but I was quoted $750US to replace.. seem it bit outlandish to me.

I have found the actual lock part available on line for $90. I am very temped to order and replace myself.

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...69#51169240213

How hard can this be?? the panels work perfectly... However, the lock is broken, thus I cannot lock it.

Anyone??

There are instructions to change it on the TIS website.

Click this link: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/ ...type in the last 7 digit of your VIN (or select appropriate model etc)...then type something appropriate in the search box like “ replace lock cylinder in center armrest

Did you try the same tip given to the OP? If not, click on the link to the TIS website...enter the last 7 digits of your VIN...then type something like “ Remove center armrest cover” into the search box.

Take note to any PRELIMINARY links given in the instructions which shows how to remove things that may need to come off prior to the armrest covers.

Following instructions above...typing "remove center armrest cover"...I found this link: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...soles/F38XMTtd

That link provides two "PRELIMINARY TASKS" that are required:

Necessary preliminary tasks:
  1. Remove rear centre console trim: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...soles/IzqSYZa9
  2. Remove both side covers on centre console: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...soles/F39naTlE

Then you:
Open storage compartment, if necessary.

Lever out and remove the closure cover (1) with special tool 00 9 325 .

Release left and right bolts (2) on centre armrest cover (1).

Tightening torque 51 16 13AZ.

Release screws (1) on back of centre armrest cover (2).

Tightening torque 51 16 13AZ.

Raise the rear centre armrest cover (2) and pull back slightly.

Installation note:
Correctly feed the retaining lugs (1) into the centre console support.

At this point in the instructions...it appears the two covers come off as a unit...and may be intended to be replaced that way. It may take some ingenuity at this point to figure out how to separate the two covers.

Going to the part database to verify the above assumption...it does appear that the covers are engineered/designed as a single unit...thus taking them apart wasn't intended...so to do it would require some ingenuity and probably patients.

"borrowing" my thread back.... I am stuck!

I purchased a new lock and I figured out how to remove the chrome trim around the lock. I have even recoded the new lock...

I cannot get the old lock cylinder out of the console. I had to stop since I already broke a piece of the cylinder by trying to pry it out. I have the key inserted when trying to get it out.. the instruction suggest that it will come out with a screwdriver pry.

What am I missing? thanks in advance

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...soles/F3HzRPPn

has anyone done this? I am afraid to damage the overall lock by leveraging the cylinder.

I have already broken part of the cylinder..

In order to remove the entire central console newtis instructions didnt mentioned about the prying the side cover to access 4 screws.

The console spring are mounted at the rear end. Hence this save me time to remove the entire console. Does anyone knows the spring part nos?

Pry open the entire side cover panel for both side. The central console are bolted with few screws. Remove these screws the central console can be removed.
