Christmas tree lights on after center console replacement
So I changed the center console wood trim to a new carbon fiber trim the other day in my 2016 F06 650i GC, and while changing it I had to remove the sport mode and camera connectors. As well as I the parking break connector. When I removed the parking break I started getting an error because my dumb ass forgot to remove the battery terminal before starting work. I always remove it but that day I missed it somehow. I put everything back together and took it apart again because I couldn’t get the center piece in. When I turned on the car after I mounted everything in its place, I started getting all sorts lights on my dash, see attached for all lights.
1. Chassis stabilization 2. Parking break 3. Collision warning 3. Pedestrian warning So far I have recalibrated SAS, cleared all error codes one by one and after I drive for a few mins all lights come back. The OBD2 I used is Ancel BM700 (idk if this is any good). I plan to take my center console apart again and make sure connections are firm, but would you guys have any other recommendations on what I should consider in addition? Thank you in advance! |

Recheck your work and also make sure the battery didn’t discharge to a low level. A deeply discharged battery can cause electrical glitches/gremlins. Did you have the door open the entire time you were doing the work? If yes, then the car never shut down the entire time the door was open…which could have caused the battery to drop to a low level.

Yes, I had my door open most of the time because removing the center console is a pain in the read end.
That makes sense, would there be anything I can use to check the battery’s health? Also, you think it’s worth trying to charge the battery at this point or get a new one? |

If you have a battery charger/tender/maintainer that can charge an AGM battery…then yes, I would hook it up. If the charger/maintainer/tender has a gauge or lights that tell you what condition the battery is…that could give you an indicator if the battery is discharged.
Remember to use the dedicated jump start terminals in the engine bay so that the IBS (intelligent battery sensor) can monitor any recharge.

Alright man, I appreciate your advice!
I just took the center console apart and made sure all connections are intact and snug. I did remove the negative terminal this time I definitely took your advice earlier today and have already bought the CKTEK MXS 5.0. So I will be charging my battery tomorrow morning. Will let you know how it goes. Thanks again! |

Ok so quick update, I left it charging for 8h and had to go somewhere so thinking 8h was enough I removed the charger and went off my way. The indicator was still at point 3 when I removed it, so it wasn’t fully charged yet.
Drove like a little over a mile and lights came back on again. I went back and will leave it charging for 20h now. Given my car is 8 years old and I doubt if the battery was ever changed by previous owner, do you think it’s best for me to just replace the battery at this point? |

Battery is fully charged now, no luck these lights keep showing.
Interest part is that they go away when i turn off the car and then come back again when i drive. I gotta send it to the shop, can’t think of anything else… |
