Auto Start Stop and other noob questions
Curious if anyone uses the auto start stop? BMW admits in the manual that the constant start stop will prematurely wear down components, but yet offers that as an option anyway, which seems strange. I realize it helps with the overall mpg, but probably not good for the overall health of the car.
On another note, from the past week, I consistently hear a short, high pitched whine/squeal when I first start the car. Wondering if this is normal? Finally, can you play music from your phone app (amazon music, etc) with the phone connected to the car via USB? The car recognizes the phone connected via USB, but doesn't play the music through the speakers. (Bluetooth works fine). Thanks! |

I never use start/stop on any of my cars, and I doubt I ever will. Mind you, I've never been one to worry about MPG. The potential for additional wear, no matter how minor, isn't worth a few MPG.
The high-pitched whine that you are hearing, is it only when starting the car, or does it continue until the car warms up? I've never attempted to play music outside of using BT.

If you have setup your mobile to BT music, then iDrive doesn't recognise as a USB music source. So untick BT music in phone settings. Having said this, I don't think the USB supports music streaming services, but I may be wrong (never tried as not using them, I'm a dinosaur who relies on CD sound quality 😇.
The whine sounds like an auxiliary device belt - time to replace…? |

To play music from your phone through USB...it may depend on what option code you have for smartphone playback...and which platform you have (Apple/Android). Like mentioned in the post abov e...if you have enhanced BT initiated...then the system is set up to stream from your smart phone. See the chart below & what MUSIC selections are available for the columns for NBT and NBT EVO. Apple products may require a special Apple USB cord to connect to the car’s system USB port that is located in the center console.

That's interesting. It looks like it might be an Android thing. I was able to connect my wife's iPhone via the USB and play music through the speakers. May have been my imagination, but it sounded better as well. Album art also, interestingly, came through, which it doesn't via bluetooth.
