Interesting point.

If you are drink driving in the UK, i believe you are considered uninsured even before you have the accident.

That would make sense to me. Why should the insurance company be on the hook to pay you for something that was completely avoidable.

I dont write the rules, just my 2 cents.

I don't know how insurance works in England or Canada but in the USA even if you are drunk, your insurance still covers whatever damage is done. And I don't care what makes sense, what does your policy say? That's all that matters. And that was my point, people don't even know what they bought.

The reason is that what is "avoidable" or even stupid is undefinable. Suppose you reach down for a cookie you dropped and at that instant the car ahead of you stops and you slam into them. Do you expect your insurance company not to pay because of an "avoidable" standard? Many accidents are the result of some version of dumb, and the rates we pay reflect that.

Accidents happen and people are cited if at fault, for whatever reason. Excess speed, yielding, drinking or whatever could have technically been avoided. As mentioned before the rates are adjusted by the risk they perceive. Most times they win, sometimes they have to pay up. But they're still on the hook

We've or I should say I've been looking for a car to replace the 650 GC and decided that the replacement will be my weekend car - the wife is getting an older Camry, G50, or something on that level due her increased cost to insure. We stopped by a Caddy dealer to look at a used Camry they had on the lot and I wandered off to look at a CTS-V they had sitting outside the showroom. I had been thinking about an M6 GC and drove a couple, but there was something about this car that drew me in. Then I took it for a drive - O.M.G! This thing is a beast with absolutely no lag when getting on the gas and putting the power down - I never felt that ferocity with the M6. Granted the interior isn't up to BMW standards and I hate the CUE touch screen system, but other than that I had to have it. I hemmed and hawed for a couple of days and thought about a Vette, but I just don't like the way the C7's look, even in Z06 trim, too angular, almost Japanese looking, plus they are a pain in the ass to get in and out of. Maybe an M6, but seeing a BMW just pissed me off again about what my wife did to her's. So I decided to give the mighty V a shot. I've had it a week and can't wipe the smile off my face. It's a totally different car than the 650 GC, but in a good way. I can already tell that it loves premium fuel, but as soon as I get used to additional power the mileage should come back up.

It's been a fun ride on the 5 and 6 forums the last 10 years and have learned a lot from you guys and I hope someone has learned something from me (other than don't drink and drive). I'll still be checking in from time to time and trying to peddle my last few items left from my GC.

Thanks for the good times!
