Brake Pads Due

My "rear brake pads due" dummy warning light came on today. For the past 25K miles it has read "due in 3100 miles". I just hit 50K miles so I assume it is simply mileage based? I just had an inspection when I was hitting 50K miles and the rear pads still have 7mm. How do I reset the warning light? Thanks

You have to get in the car, ignition on engine not running. Press and hold the button on the dashboard until it brings up the reset menu. Then scroll through to the rear brake pads options and press and hold. You may need to handbrake to be off.

Depending on what the rear wear sensor is telling the car it may or may not reset.

How often do you change yours? I will get the same message soon...
Comfort ride most of the time.

There really isn't a rule of thumb on how often to change brake pads. And comfort mode doesn't really make any difference. It all depends on how many times you brake and how hard you brake each time. You and another owner may each put 8,000 miles on your cars in a year, but he only brakes 20,000 times in that distance and you brake 40,000 times and twice as hard. You should not rely on the warning light at all. Just rely on a visual inspection. The pads are not hard to see. Do it yourself or have someone do it for you. When they are about 3mm thick, replace them and the rotors.

In my case it turned out the inner part of the pad not visible was worn to 3 mm.

Was that wear considerably more than the outside pad? That happens sometimes, but shouldn't.

Yes - the outer part of the pad was 6mm and inner 3 mm. Not sure what causes.

Check your guide sleeve and pins. If they are corroded it will cause uneven wear of the pads.
