What is your favourite optional extra?

Head up display is superb, I also love my comfort seats. 360 camera isn't great, I wouldn't pay for it again.

What's your favourite, and what is a waste of cash?

I have HUD and Lane Departure warning turned off. Anti collision or whatever its called came in handy - twice!

Heads up is mostly useless if you wear sunglasses so I don't really "use" it much even though it's always on. Honestly, I like the 360 overhead camera best because it saves me from scraping my wheels on curbs when I park. Night vision might be useful if I lived out in the country, but it's kinda useless in a big city. The massaging seats are pretty stupid. After the 360 camera, I probably like my individual red sycamore wood trim best and it doesn't do anything but sit there.

you know what 'option' I was extremely thankful and grateful for today actually.... the smart locking facility to stop what would have been very very irritating.

I opened the boot of my LOCKED car without unlocking the whole car this morning to put my briefcase with the car key in the case in my boot. I then went to shut the boot only to have the car beep and pop the boot as if to say ahhh nooooo you don't.. I was puzzled for a second and thought hmmm wtf... it then dawned on me, my 650 had just saved me a massive inconvenience! I'm travelling and 3 hours away from home at present......

while I'm sure this 'option' isn't isolated to BMW but I'm very grateful for it

If you use non polaroid sunglasses the head up is crystal clear

Polaroid didn't make my camera, much less my sunglasses. And if you meant non-polarized sunglasses.... who even buys those?

FAVS:
  • HUD - especially on a long trip and you have a destination entered. The additional info for junctions and exits was a delightful surprise vs the in-town info.
  • Surround View + front camera
  • Bluetooth connectivity with phone and/or the BMW connectivity to send directions to the vehicle (which I'm going to be losing in 2022 )
  • Blind Spot (mirror triangle warning)
  • Collision Warning
  • Comfort Access
  • Heated Seats & Steering wheel
  • Road Sign/Speed Limit option

Least FAVS:
  • Lane Departure (except when driving at night on unfamiliar roads/highways that are unlit and have cornfields etc on each side of the road)
  • Only 3 blinks for the turn indicators (when some can code in up to 5 blinks)
  • Absence of SOFT CLOSE for trunk

Wouldn't miss but still kinda glad I have it:
  • Active (booty massaging seat)

HUD with speed limit info is sweet. 6wb cluster, collision warning, blindside assist are some of my favorite features.

Can't believe we don't have the power tailgate option like on the 5 series. Smh.

My favourite optional extra is the terror of knowing that if anything breaks I have to sell a kidney.

I do. Very helpful for me and my work. Polarized glasses distort the display screens and windscreen. Lots of rainbowish and washed out info with the polarized glasses. Non polarized looks just like the natural eye, albeit slightly tinted. Quality Non-Polarized glasses are rare, and I source mine from a specialized manufacturer here in the states.

I love the Stop and Go (adaptive Cruise Control), Auto Brights, Top View Camera for backing in parking spots. Yup, and HUD too!

Polarized sunglasses. Sunglasses that aren’t don’t ‘disappear’ it.

Yes, but I would not want non-polarized sunglasses. But I still don't understand why HUD has to be that way. My iDrive screen and even the climate panel goes dark if I tip my head over 90 degrees. So why can't HUD be oriented so it is that way too?

Oakley has a full range of non polarized sunglasses. It is worth a try. I use polarized sunglasses when boating and fishing. Not for sports, golf and driving.

I have no idea! I discovered the polarized effect when I picked my car up from the body shop a while ago. Everything looked great until I put my new shades on and drove off. I thought: They ruined my HUD! Took my shades off for some reason and voila! It was back. I have since discovered that if I turn my head about 30 degrees off center and look sideways at the HUD, it will appear. But that sort of defeats the entire purpose of the HUD. I wonder if other manufacturer’s HUDs behave this way?

Well...those of us in the US market got a "dumbed-down" version of HBA & VLD (high beam assist & variable light distribution). Though a nice option...we didn't get the full function of these two lighting options like those in other markets did.
  • S5AP - Decoding Anti-Glare High-Beam Assistant
  • S8S4 - Decoding, Variable Light Distribution
