The whole Boxster/Cayman situation seemed odd to me. The 982 was no more than a refresh with new engines. Seems they only did it due to global emissions regulations forcing them to move to 4 cyl engines. They marketed it as an all-new car but it wasn't. For an 8 yr old car, the 981/982 still looks fresh.
That's the thing, are most cars really "new from the ground up"? Correctly me if I'm wrong but I recall reading an article years ago saying that the average car will retain anywhere from 30%-50% of its predecessor components.

Agree, the 981/982 still looks nice. I also think the 86 looks alright for a $26k car. It seems that most people main complaint is the lack of power.

Well it seems more common now that sports cars are an ever shrinking portion of the market. It's not like in the 70s/80s where some cars had 15-20 yr runs, but for quite some time these cars had a full redesign at somewhat regular intervals.

Toyota is hosting a tech tour at the track on Saturday (it's for the Supra though) and I plan on trying to find out if they have any info on the new 86. My friend couldn't outright tell me anything, but with a wink and a nod he let me know that the new 86 will be at the track doing a photo/video shoot in the next couple of weeks (could have happened as early as this week). I didn't press him for too much info since he was giving me as much as he was allowed to without violating any NDA's.

I've got a few member day passes, I'll let him know that I want to use one on the day Toyota will be there (or just find out more details). He made it sound like the car is pretty much ready to be announced/unveiled and they are just waiting for the proper timing. It seems too late for a 2021, but I would be surprised if the new 86 isn't a 2022 model.

Anybody else think that the rear of their rendering looks like a knock-off of the current NSX?

That camo car looks identical to the leaked images. I don’t like the plate in rear bumper look otherwise its a good evolution. Lucky it hasn’t been killed off given everything that happened.

Exactly, what's the point of the camo anymore.

260HP turbo 2.4 leaked. If the weight is still around 2800lbs this could be a really fun car.

That article is 4 months old, anything more recent on engine specs? I would hope they stay NA.

3 month old article also boasting about a turbo motor. Why not a fan of turbo? The FA20 was way under powered after all.

I thought the latest leak was 217HP NA motor with ~170 lb ft of toruqe?

I think it staying NA is likely, to separate it from the 4 cyl supra.

I will say, if they have improved the interior slightly to make it a bit more quiet and refined I will be interested.

I'd go for one of these things any day, if I was in the market. For me the low power, skinny tyres etc are part of the appeal; you can have fun on public roads, within the speed limit. Let's face it - that's 99% of our driving

Drivetrain wise, there's a new "leak" every other week.

The rear definitely looks exactly like the render.

The thing that seems off from the red render is how the taillights protrude out on the 3/4 view and the mesh grille pattern. Other then that yea its pretty close imo.
