Rear dash cam

Anyone installed a rear dash cam? If so, does it impact the rear sun shade?

Thanks

Rear dash cam

Installed Viofo a139 2channel and it worked out perfectly! Read about it in the "2021 What Did You Do To Your 6-Series Today" thread recently.

Yes, I did. I did some trial runs with the shade moving up and down. You can see my post here (#47). I installed it between the defroster wires 2 and 3 (counting from the top).

Of course your results may vary if you install a different camera, however the Viofo 139 works perfectly. I also recomend using a static sticker or similar to mount the camera (front and back). I used what came in the package from the camera, but also ordered this for future use.

I love it!
Great picture quality and you were right - easy to install and tuck away the wires. Very clean install.
App however could be better. Noticed random connectivity issues and best results I got was when i had airplane mode on. The transfer is pretty slow though.
Disabled random beeps that can be kind of annoying, but i am not sure if i will get notified when the SD card becomes full.

All in all, very happy for the price. Also have a BT remote button on the way.

Thanks for the idea :-)

Yes, app can be a bit spotty. I imagine they will provide an update as it seems to be a common theme.

The recordings loop on the mini sd card. So technically it will never fill up. The oldest recordings will be overwritten with the new recordings unless you lock them, for future reference.

I do like all the different configurations to get rid of the annoyances you mentioned.

Did you use the static film to mount the cameras? I really like the concept.

The previous dashcam system I used required a format when the card filled up so i am/was expecting a warning that the SD card is full. If it works by overwriting oldest videos, that is pretty cool.
Used the original provided method to mount the cameras. Happy with it.

I installed a Mercylion dashcam for BMW in my car, and it doesn't interfere with the rear sun shade at all. I mounted the dash cam on the side of the rear window, and it's completely out of the way. I'm really glad I didn't have to choose between having a dash cam and a sun shade.
