"Under Minimum" Oil Level Warning (recall?)

Has anyone received a letter from BMW to have their DME control unit reprogrammed?

I almost tossed the letter below in the trash...thinking it was junk mail...thankfully I stopped and opened the letter. I'm not sure I have the issue because I did get a low oil warning last summer...and topped off with a quart of oil.

If one does get the updated programming...I wonder if (or any) BimmerCode coding parameters will be lost?

I have not received that letter. Maybe it's only for certain model years or VINs? I see yours is 2013, mine is 2015.

I'm thinking you're right. I haven't seen any mention of it on the forums (yet)...and I'm doing multiple 5/6/7/X5 forums everyday. And both my f06 & f15 have the N63TU engine...but the 2013 model year f06 has a 1/15/13 build date where as the 2014 f15 X5 has an 11/25/13 build date.

Interesting my 650 ix has the same build date at yours 1/15/13. I haven't received the letter. My car has never needed oil so who knows if the warning works.

my 650 2013 was an early build, July 2012, but never received a letter either. I check my oil on occasion and gotten the warning a few times.

mine uses about a quart every 1500, but thats all I drive in a year, so no big deal

Walt & jdsaengine...I appreciate both of your posts...especially since they are 2013 model years. Now I'm really curious as to what prompts this reach-out by BMW.

Walt, if you do get a letter (since we have the same build date)...drop back into this thread (hopefully it wont be hard to find)...that would at least indicate the owners contacted have cars that were built within a specific production date range.

Will do. I had my car in for service under the original 4 year warranty (I bought it used when it was 3 years old) and I remember the service manager saying they updated the car's software but really don't know what they did. Maybe this was updated.

same with me, bought in 2016 when it was 3yr old and got it as a CPO from BMW dealer, so the upgrade might have been done.
