Comfort +

I’m a big fan of comfort + these days. Rides like a cloud! I discovered that though the car defaults to Comfort, if you select Comfort + it will stay selected every time you start the car until you change back to another mode.

Same here!
Turned it on for the recent long trip and it remained on.
The other day found myself annoying other drivers how slow (within the speed limit), I was going 😂

Mine spends all it's time in Sport. I don't care for an overly plush ride, and even in sport the 6'er isn't exactly stiff.

Sports+ mode, sport transmission mode, and traction control fully off. No other way allowed in mine.

24 years of here, but really appreciate Comfort +. Especially cruising on California’s jungle pot hot roads

It's nice to switch off the sports exhaust when in a not so nice area or if you just want to be quieter, or not disturb neighbours at night.

I use all modes depending on the situation, even eco sometimes. Mostly comfort and switching to sport when I want to show off.

Same! I am always a bit surprised when I put her in Sport+. It’s a real Jekyl and Hyde thing. On a long trip, I’ve been known to use eco mode. I get a kick out of getting good mileage. Did you know that the new M850i GC can get 28 mpg from its 523 hp V8?

I have to drive in Sport mode. That was the BMW engineers suggestion to avoid the shake/rough ride from the "within tolerance" torque converter.

I can't detect any difference in ride quality when in comfort+ versus any other mode. Car was a CPO and has only 45k on the clock.

What am I missing? And why? 🧐

Sport and sport+ change throttle response and shifting but I feel no difference in suspension/chassis.

The difference between sport and sport+ is the activation of DTC (dynamic traction control) which is basically a reduction of traction control. Sport+ allows you to get more wheel slippage (by limiting traction control) and not reducing engine throttle, too if the wheels begin to slip. This is the reason I DON”T use sport+ when driving in traffic…especially in wet conditions.

And I find driving in SPORT MODE when on a long interstate/divided highway journey annoying since the RPM is high since the tranny usually doesn’t go into 8th gear. Like other’s mentioned…when on long highway trips…where you’re going at a constant speed with little braking…this is when the comfort, comfort+…and God forbid..even Eco Pro can be useful.

I never use eco pro…kinda really don’t like it…but I did find it useful in July 2020 on a 600 mile trip in 90°F-100°F temps. The AC was doing its thing…but after actuating to it…after a couple of hours I was too cold. So instead of multiple HVAC temp adjustments…I remembered that eco pro mode will reduce the AC…and it did. If I did need to pass or accelerate…it was simple just to move the gear shift lever over into the M/S gate to regain the sport mode transmission shift pattern….then with a quick flip….go back to eco pro or comfort/comfort+.

The chart below shows how the engine, transmission, throttle and traction control all reacts depending on what driving experience mode and gear selected as well as gear shift M/S gate selected. Unfortunate COMFORT+ isn’t listed since the 3/4 series didn’t come programmed that way from the factory…but the data pretty much carries over to other BMW models:

I also believe when pulling the shift knob toward you and putting in M/S mode disengages the tourqe converter?

If you could disengage the torque converter the car would not move. He probably meant the torque converter clutch.

Torque converter clutch The clutch is a part of the torque converter that exists to lock the engine and transmission such that they rotate and the same pace. It forms a single connection between the engine and transmission that reduces the temperatures of the transmission fluid. Its function also boosts fuel mileage.

Have you noticed that in Eco Pro, when coasting, the tranny disengages!

I believe you need adaptive drive option to engage the variable damper control for the plush ride in comfort + mode..Otherwise you only have comfort mode without the +.. Or am I wrong?

Makes sense Walt. I do recall him saying the M/S position was better than Sport mode because it disengaged something.

Yes…to have COMFORT+ from the factory…it requires one of the adaptive suspensions like EDC/DDC and have a VDM module. For those that code COMFORT+ in (after the fact)…may get some small benefit from a slight change in chassis parameters (steering and tranny shifting patterns)…which will fall between EcoPro and regular Comfort mode…but if you don’t have one of the adaptive suspensions….you won’t get any changes to the suspension (damping) since you would have a regular shocks/dampers that are incapable of changing their damping parameters.

I do like C+ as well. But, does it affect engine, transmission and suspension as well? I feel the car is more comfortable on pot hole roads and probably less accelerating.
If so, I would like to get suspension and chassis like in C+ and engine and transmission like in Comfort))).

Looks like C+ is a step closer to Ecopro.
