2016 650i Xdrive, safe to buy slightly used?

Hello all! I know the older 650is weren't exactly known for their reliability but I am looking to purchase a 2016 slightly used (20k miles) 650i. Any known issues I should look out for? This will be my first 6 series and I am super excited to join the club! Thanks

By 2016, not really. Bought my 2015 at 25k miles. I have had it 15 months and nothing forward of the firewall has needed any attention. It needed 2 new iDrive controllers because they got stiff, and a new shifter because the green indicator light failed. It's good if you have at least some remaining warranty to sort that stuff, but as of last week I am running with zero warranty.

I have had my 2015 650 xi GC for 8 months and over 8,000 miles and have had no problems whatsoever. I did buy a four year warranty at the time of purchase and have yet to use it.

So far, so good.

You should seriously consider a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) by a qualified shop...that is independent of the seller. Especially if buying from a private seller or used car lot. Even if buying a certified pre-owned from a BMW dealership...still don't go in with your eyes closed.

Buying a vehicle just because its a 2016 model (or any other model year) is not solid reasons alone to buy. Each car is unique enough that it could be a lemon or a peach. If the vehicle seems to be good enough to buy...then I highly recommend paying to get a PPI done so that you'll have some idea of the condition of the vehicle...or expectation of when certain maintenance /preventitive maintenance items may need to be taken care of.

Also, if you have a PPI done at a BMW dealership...you may be able to persuade them to share the car's service history with you. Anytime the car has been serviced at a BMW dealership...that info goes into the permanent database on the car based on its VIN. You can see if the car has an early history of failure/repair work.

Good luck.

I would stay away from BMW’s V8s. 2014+ are better, but it’s still a low volume engine for BMW.

I thought by 2015 CPO was not transferable?

It's not transferable only if the car goes through another dealership in the process of changing an owner. Private party to private party is fine.

Motivology Nice to see another fellow Arizonan on here!

From my understanding, it is transferable for private parties. We'd just have to fill out the form, show proof of ownership transfer (bill of sale), and pay a $200 transfer fee.

Bingo - that is exactly what I found online as well. Glad to see another Arizonan here too! I'm so damn ready for fall/winter season... it's too hot
