Planning on purchasing a convertible M6. Does anyone know how well the soft top handles against automated car washes based on their experience with ownership of the car.

My rudimentary understanding of convertible ownership is that car washes are not a concern. But what is a concern is with the top down, people can see your bald spot, hear your terrible music and be able to see up your skirt when you attempt to get out of your seat

Didn't really ask about all that extra BS of your bald spots or how you dress. If you don't have or have had the car not really interested in your slick remarks.

I have a 2014 M6 convertible and I can tell you that automated car washes of any kind are a no go zone. I tried and there were significant leaks. You will need to wash it yourself. No problems with the type of pressure sprayers found at the manual car wash places. May leak a little through the windows if you spray the wrong way. Always aim spray from front to back. It has never leaked a single drop in even the heaviest storms. In my opinion this is a very minor inconvenience compared to the thrill of driving that beast down the road with the top down. Hope this helps.

I've had 2 convertibles (non BMW) - trick to running any rag top thru an automated car wash (or by hand) is to turn your defrost blower on full blast. This will pressurize your cabin (interior) and keep (most) leaks out.

Hmm, I wouldn’t take a car of M6 caliber to an automatic car wash regardless how water tight the roof is or not... The question should be whether it leaks in a normal appropriately executed hand wash... The answer should be no, and if it does, probably something (pretty expensive) is broken, so stay away in that case.

Come on I think FlyingAce just wanted to mix a little bit of humour in there nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

While I have never owned a convertible, I have always washed my private cars per hand. I would believe that this remains the "safest" way for a soft-top convertible car as you control where and how much water you apply.

Regarding your request there is an interesting article here:

https://www.cars.com/articles/is-it-...1420684521740/

While it is a couple of years old there are some valid points in my opinion to read about.

I’ve absolutely no doubt that as a BMW the soft top will happily withstand the rigours of an auto car wash. For sure you’ll never catch me putting mine through such an ordeal

I can only hope that in regards to FA's skirt...that apropos undergarments are in place along with a properly placed "tuck" for the (hopefully unintended) "flashing"!

no issues

The 'positive pressure' idea is an interesting one. That said, I take my M6 cab through the touchless carwash regularly. No issues... with leakage or the paint.

...and I agree with the post above. Chill out unless someone is being truly rude.

Welcome to the "forum". . . looks like you have a good reading about the "temperature-of-the-room", now. We may toss in some light banter, razzing, levity, or self-deprecating humor into the forum's discourse...but 99.9% of the time it's never meant to be taken negatively.

Good luck in your search.

I'm in NOVA and have M6 Cabrio. I take my other 2 daily drivers thru car wash and all is good for convenience but not for a M6 Cabrio. My wheel/tire combo is too wide anyway so I have no choice. Take it to Dr Wash on Rt 50 in Chantilly and they do a beautiful job all by hand for about $50. That's inside/out so you can't beat it IMO.
