60 Hours of Labour for my M6???
I brought my car in for service for leaking coolant and they have came back with a large repair order. They say that the "timing covers" need replacement and the engine needs to be pulled, in order to do so. They are going to use my extended warranty so I am letting them proceed but is this necessary? I have not heard of this problem on an s63 m5/6.
Also, they say the real main seal is leaking. Thanks, Alex

The dealership clearly said 50-60 hour job and noted that the car will be there for over a week. Thanks

Talk to them
It takes less than 60 hours to do an entire engine heart transplant. And there are less than sixty hours in a working week. It is unlikely that they are suggesting this kind of job would take that long.
I'd share your concern and get them to walk through the quote in detail. |

Firstly, the coolant leak issue is a well documented and known issue for the S63 and N63 motor. There are multiple points where leaks can happen but the most likely parts are on the hose lines on top of the engine.
My car also had the issue, but it was caught early and only the lines need to be replaced and coolant wiped up. It appears most of the hours spent on your issue is that the leaked coolant affected other parts of the block and will force them to examine and replace the timing chain area. That said if they need to pull a motor and possibility replace some electronics in the chain area, and then you mentioned that some "rear seal" is leaking (not sure what they're talking about whether it's oil or coolant, and what part of the block is leaking) then a full week sounds about right. Just to replace my coolant hose, it was a 2 day job.

If you have a message for low coolant, you probably have a leak. It's not normal to top off coolant.
