Not sure everyone is understanding what you mean.

Sorry started thread quickly from phone. Funny story...in line at hand car wash and my car would not restart to move from wash to dry (problem being looked into) and I could not move my car or switch into neutral even though I had accessory power (basically shut down half of business with my nice M6 broke down looking like an idiot). It eventually started after a jump and I moved on but how the hell can you engage neutral in a timely manner in a situation like this? Ahhhh the magical non-existent Allen key. Any other tips?

This has not been answered yet, is there a way to put the car in neutral with either no battery power or the engine not running? There is no neutral release under the cup holder as in some of the 5 series.

I believe you remove plastic cover where the shift lever is at and as stated above you need an allen key to manually turn. Have read on other forums but not sure if there's an M6 specific DIY

There's a manual release. It's on the transmission and the underfloor protection needs to be removed. There is no way to disengage the transmission from the cabin. There used to be a manual release under the cup holders but this was only on early models and was deleted.

I had a 2015 535 xdrive was in manhattan going to work early morning with my friend so we stopped at the coffee cart ,we get back in the car starts up I go to the traffic light full stop, all of a sudden the car spudders and dies ,uh oh thats not good ,I tried starting it a few times says low fuel on the nav screen ,but I had a full tank, we tried to put in neutral to push it closer to the curb but it wouldn't let us.
When the flat bed arrived the driver didn't know how to put the car in neutral either to pull it on the flat bed, so we found out if you put a booster pack on the leads under the hood the car will then allow you to put it in neutral,I know its a different model but it might work the same |

Only way I found to get this done is to disassemble the center console, remove the shifter, take off the cover for the shifter solenoid, disassemble that whole mechanism, that allows you to get a grip on the physical cable/wire that snaps the trans in and out of park. It's a pain in the ass because you literally have to hold wire under a lot of tension to allow the car to move, so in case gotta turn the steering wheel, you'll have to stop the car, turn the wheel, then proceed to pull the cable and keep moving lol. Oh yeah, remember to disable the electronic parking brake before you disassemble / unplug your whole center console Tools needed: T15, T20, T25 w/ extension, 10MM socket (w/ extension, and preferably some experience. PS. Don't trust anyone to know what they're doing if they are ever towing your M5/6 - if you ever find your car leaking oil, DO NOT attempt to start the vehicle unless you know that you have a substantial amount of oil still remaining in the engine. |

Press the clutch, put the gear lever into the “N” position... works every time! 😅
Why do I feel like I am going to regret getting a DCT 🙄 |
