2016 640i GC x-Drive M-sport... Hi and Bye!

So I owned a 2016 640i xDrive M-sport (CPO) from October 2019 until a few days ago. I used to use e90post when I had a 2007 328xi, which I owned from 2009 to 2019. I loved that car and I would still be driving it if it didn’t crap out at 90K miles (AWD, main car-length wiring harness and oil leak) – I was on the fence about repairing, but decided I wanted to try the 640. I think it’s one of the more beautiful cars BMW has ever made, and one of the few that the European pedestrian standards did not ruin. I think maybe the very long hood allowed it to not have as high a hood end?

I never got to posting here because I didn’t want to modify it while it was still under CPO. I hadn't had it long before that I felt I had made a bad purchase decision The car was too big for me – it’s got bad visibility to begin with and I’m a short guy, I could barely park it, and couldn't see curbs going around right turns; it was also just too floaty for me and not as tossable. I missed having a sliding sunroof. But most of all… I REALLY missed having a stick. So I traded it for a 2018 340i xDrive M-sport [Estoril Blue] with a 6-speed manual. I guess my next stop is the F30 forums I’m glad I got a chance to own a 640, it’s a fantastic car, it just wasn’t for me. I'm much happier back in a 3-series.

Pics: Car at delivery. I don’t have any good pics of the front with the 19s on it… Car with 18s and snows; I believe these rims were offered on early 6’s, it didn’t look that bad, but they didn’t completely work with the M-sport trim. [Those rims/tires will be for sale, only a few thousand miles on the snows, but the rims are repainted badly.] Finally, a pic of the 6 in my garage in what I would call the most appropriate parking space ever for a 6-series. Yes, those plates are all real and it took me a decade of eBay surfing to collect them.

Happy Motoring,
Peter in Vermont

Like my late 435i better than my 17 640i
Love the plates wall, gonna finish the rest of the garage? Why all the “666”?

In regards to “hard to park”...I find the rear/side/front cameras help tremendously...which does away with the “hard to park” argument (for me). I also find the times when there are curbs and you’re driving slow or leaving a parking space or lot & you know there are concrete curbs but you can’t see them...just press the PDC button (or the iDrive control button if you need to quickly switch the view) and if you have side/rear/front view cameras...you can now see how close/far the curbs are and if you’re about to scrape up your alloy rims.

I do the above in my f06 GC and f15 X5 when confronted with concrete curbs that I can’t see. Maybe that tip can help with any BMW model that has side/front/rear cameras when trying to park or leave a parking space.

All the best with the new 3 series...the F30 is a great platform in my opinion.

EDIT: I just remembered that I coded (using the Bimmercode app) my cameras to stay on longer than the default from the factory...so that may be something some can’t do if the cameras shut off too early.

I feel your pain, I'm also a bit loosen with this 'sprinting elephant' , and missing that stick too. I've been so lucky that my fiance took my ex car ( 400 kilos lighter audi quattro with stick) and as much I like it still somehow the current F13 640 D is passing by ......

I managed to get this elephant a bit more alive with some fine tuning. Even the car is hefty weighty alloys does not have to be, my current 19" set up is round 25% lighter that the original M 351 set up, this tune did make is accelerate a freely. My gearbox is also tuned. I've a feeling that I'm up to be more satisfied day by day.

But still, feel your pain, I'm also having second thoughts to swap to smaller one.

I just like the 666 since it's number of the beast, evil, etc. I'm a plate collector (I have over 1000) and the #666 is desirable, along with 420 and repeating numbers in general. That wall of plates is worth probably $2500 (if you had the patience to sell them one at a time on ebay). I have a few dozen more 666 plates but I may be moving in the near future so I've stopped putting them up for now.

My car didn't have the cameras, only PDC. I also don't have any depth perception, so even with the PDC, parking was just a very uncomfortable experience for me.

Ah...that's enlightening details...especially since the f06/f12/f13 6 series has a long hood, wide body and streamlined roof...parking without the cameras along with the depth perception you mentioned would definitely make it hard to park.

I am 6'5'' and it has completely no room behind my driver seat. Any recommendations or advices for me as I am looking long years to get 6er. The only car I like how it looks like outside. Currently with 435.
