My wife is not convinced that this will resolve the issue, especially when I've been telling her about the issues others have had, being brake related, guibo related or tyre related.

Sytner are adamant its nothing mechanical.... but I've read alot about it possibly being the Guibo/Flex Disc. You'd think they would have checked this? :
So what was the result of the test after swapping wheels?

Looks like they haven't done that - yet.

Just chased them and the service guy said that the wheel balancing and subsequent test afterwards was good but still room for improvement (where do they find these guys!?)

They want to do the swapping wheel test tomorrow but I won't be involved as I can't take another day off work.

IMO, the way they talk to you is all nonsense and try give you some BS. You know when you're being fobbed off. History has taught me you need to stand your ground and be firm with them.

I just want this saga to be over so I can enjoy the car! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Update: Got the car back last night from the dealer. They advised they have rebalanced all the wheels. Apparently the NSF was missing a 20g weight...

They are getting me a new alloy for the OSF. It needs to be ordered from Germany and then they will book me back in again to get it changed over.

Driving the car home yesterday and this morning - I'm not sure in them rebalancing it has made any difference. I think I'm at the stage of being very sensitive to any vibrations I feel. I guess I'll know after the wheel is replaced.

Still can't stop thinking that it may be something mechanical but they reassure me that they have checked the car over and can't see any issues.

Update:

Sytner Leicester have agreed to replace the OSF alloy, but have balanced all my wheels again for now. Why rebalance a buckled wheel that's going to be replaced :

They are only doing it because Sytner Sunningdale have agreed to pick up the tab...

4 x Wheel Balancing £70.00
Fitting Alloy £21.00
Alloy £665.00 (They told me it was £415 inc VAT)

Total £756.00

Just playing the waiting game now

I expect many are running OEM wheels, so my experience likely won’t apply. When swapping out the RFTs with non-RFTs, I moved up to 20” after-market wheels at the same time.

After which, I could sometimes detect a peculiar “rolling” vibration at certain speeds, typically around 60 to 65mph. While it could be evident at other lower speeds, often it wasn’t.

Tried various tire pressures, torquing lug bolts, rotating tires/wheels left to right, but couldn’t detect much of a change, except somehow it always seemed more prominent from the rear.

On a whim I pulled a rear wheel and measured with calipers the hub diameter vs that of the wheel itself - discovering a 1.5mm difference. I purchased a set of shims (under $7 on Amazon), installed them, and now have zero vibration at any speed.

I suppose the lesson with these wide, large diameter wheels on cars like ours is that 1. Any variance is greatly magnified, and 2. When they say “hub centric”, they really mean it, and it’s always worth measuring.

Hope my experience can help out someone here, someday.

Centering rings are mandatory on aftermarket wheels.

I'm guessing these are only needed if the centre bore isn't the same as an OEM wheel.

The 2 sets of Borbet alloys I've used with winter tyres had the same centre bore, 72.5 so not had to use these.

For your Borbet wheels you are absolutely correct. Many aftermarket wheels are made to fit a number of different car models and makes and use the centering rings to make up the difference in hub-center bore dimensions as the OP found out.

Currently sat at the dealer waiting for the buckled wheel to be replaced.

Only took them 9 months to get it sorted :

Didn't bring the car as they wanted to sanitise it and clean it down inside... Not on my interior and new steering wheel!

Lets see if this cures the slight vibration that is still present between 70-75 now.

I have exact same problem with my aftermarket wheels. Really annoying. Will try to do some measurements over the weekend and get some hub centric rings. My wheels should be correct center bore but they messed up (long story) anyway I noticed when taking off and on the wheel that rears are kinda loose on hub. Hopefully that is the problem.

You should be able to find the measurements of the BMW hub and the wheel center bore on line with a Google search.

I know that hub should be 72.56. My wheel center bore is around 72.8. So i dont think that this is the issue.
