Remove Snap-in Adapter Base DIY

So I was tired of the adapter base taking up all that space in my console so I decided to remove. It was a five minute one tool job:

1. Separate plastic bottom from felt covered base with thin Name: second.jpg

2. Push down and pull felt base away from console

3. Push plastic adapter though felt base and set felt base asideName: third.jpg

4. Open small door in rear of console and disconnect three wires, pulling out plastic adapterName: fourth.jpg

5. Reinstall rubber mat. I covered the hole with black felt, but for about $35 you can order the full mat (oem 51169217615).Name: finished.jpg

Thanks

The car comes with the base, then you have to buy the snap in adapter for your cell phone to get any function.

Here is one write up: http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1177288

I tried using it with an iphone 4 and it was always wonky

You can get a little plastic tray to fit in the present location. The internal of the center console is different. The part number for the tray is 51169217615. It is around $30. Turner has about the best price. The "floor of the storage space will not increase but you will add an "oddment" storage tray. The trunk lock button remains as is.

Wait, are you sure that tray 51169217615 will get him the switch? Googling the part number indicates what OP was saying in his post and that the part is simply the rubber floor mat that covers the hole.

Is the GC and coupe different? OP has a Coupe and in his pictures it clearly shows that the switch never went away during the conversion. Or if you did this on your car, maybe the model year changed the location of the switch?

As you can see in the pic above the trunk lock is on the same wall as the 12 volt and usb and did not need to be removed. I have a 2013 convertible

The tray goes in the place of the phone base. The raised section is not removable in the GC. There is "no way" to get the full flat bottom other than changing out several other components or cutting it up.

you can remove the base plate 84109215826 and install 51169206734. The trunk switch remains in place.

I'm sorry for re-opening this old post, but I'm struggling to get the felt base out. Seems to be stuck in there so I'm at the point where if I can't get it out I'm going to get stuck into it with a hacksaw blade.

This is a great post which helped me get the phone holder out. One point to note, for my 2014 coupe 640i, to get the holder out, I had to slide it towards the back of the car while pushing down on the metal clip at the front of the holder. Then to disconnect the big block connector, there's a sliding lock which needs to rotate out and the block disconnects. The pink and blue connectors were a b*tch to disconnect, had to use a small flat blade screw driver to get the coloured clips off, but after working it for about 15 minutes, they finally disconnected. Now to buy the full coverage mat to cover the wire access hole and it's complete.

PS. I don't have the boot lock in the centre console.
