640D use M6 ASD
Hi all
I've just agreed to trade in my M4 for a 640D! Some people may think I'm crazy but I think the 6 series has aged better and having owned a 335d, I know it has enough power to keep me happy. My question is over the engine noise. Has anyone had any expereince in coding ASD to M6 using the carley device? I know a lot of people don't like active sound at all but I was wondering if it would sound better then the existing 640d sound module? |

I recently had the M4 ASD put onto my car. Thought it would be a laugh and it definitely is ha! Drowns out the 'diesel sound'. I've noticed then when driving around 'normally' the ASD doesn't really kick in (Comfort,Comfort + or Sport). However when in Sport + or in Manual mode, the speakers roar and add to the enjoyment. ASD has mixed opinions/views but for I see it as a bit of fun. Plus its something can be coded off or put back to how it was. Didn't realise it could be done via Carly?

i coded the ASD to M6 also, its a deeper sound than the std 640d fake noise, i like it TBH, but even the diesel engine itself doesnt sound like your normal oil burner bag of spanners
interesting move from the M4 to the 640d, however you will enjoying the interior more & the power is decent (even better with a remap) we see around the 400bhp mark & 730nm+ im off to the M6 crowd soon, love the M4

There's a thread on this forum about changing the settings. It gets life of you select the setting for "competition"
I set mine to V8 for a bit of fun, I thought I'd changed it back but left the competition setting in the hope that the add was a little louder - think it still sounds like a V8 though. Have a play. It doesn't take very long to change. |

I changed my 640d over the M6 settings a while ago but over the long term have found it to just be a little harsh and doesn't match the character of a diesel (albeit a 300+ hp diesel )
The M550d also has ASD and I would be interested in whether that suits the character of the 640d. However, I've not been able to work out the right settings for that yet? |

is there anywhere i can hear this ASD change in a 6 series , a lot of the videos seem to be m4, and they are going to have a serious natural tone anyway |

I'll have a look tomorrow as long as the kids are behaving as I'm going to reset mine back to stock. The M6 comp sound was fun for a while but like said above it's not the right now for the car and at low revs sounds more like you've got rattly tapers. Like I said fun for a while.

Hi all.
I am about to collect a 640D tomorow (2017 MY) and having trawled through this forum and the internet in general for answers, I am still unable to find out if this ASD can be coded (to m3/m4/m6 etc) with just bimmercode or carly or both?. I would just like to make sure before i sign up and buy the adaptor thats all. Many thanks in advance! |

I traded my M4 for a 650i and I prefer it more except for the exhaust note. Will research asd changes with Carly as well.

From Carly:
Active Sound Design Mode • off • M5/M6 Mode for Active Sound Design. The Active Sound Design module produces an amplified exhaust sound in the interior through the speakers. If you disable this function a fault code in the ASD might appear. To remove this fault code restore the ASD from ist original backup, since the fault code appeared because the ASD has been disabled. (codable in ASD)
