Grille Removal Help

Can someone please post a link to a guide or video for how to remove and replace the grilles on an F13 M6? The videos I've seen are for other 6-ers, or other chassis models and the M6 differs.

ETA, I have Night Vision in this car, if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance!

Should be the first DIY in this thread

Worth bookmarking for future reference, super helpful

EDIT: Just realized after checking that the thumbnail for the video is for a non M 6-series, so this may not have been what you were looking for after reading your original post. Sorry about that

LOL

I like how he just jumps from telling us to remove the screws to 'just' pushing doen on the tabs, but not how he got his hand doen into there...

So, I removed those screws again, and gave a good tug on the nose, but those clips just don't seem to want to cooperate. I've tried pulling up and pushing down, no dice. Do I need to remove that chrome ring first?

I haven't personally done this myself so I will allow someone who has to chime in on this -- I don't want to provide any misguided advice

Have a look at the Obsessed Garage video where Matt replaced the grilles on his M5 with night vision. It's the same process on the M6.

There’s another link at the bottom that takes you to instructions on how to remove the night vision camera.

I replaced my front grills a few months ago when the ambient temps got up into the mid 50s...but like you...after removing the torn screws and pin clips...I was able to pull the (nose) bumper out enough to reach in and try to work the clips along the top side with a long screw driver. (It may help when temps are warmer if you don’t have a temp controlled garage)

I have seen some owners that have a curved/hook tool that allows them to access the clips along the sides and bottom...but they defeated me. Since I had no plans to keep the old kidney grilles...I gave up and didn’t care if the clips on the grilles broke...BUT I did make sure not to destroy the “hooks” in the bumper that secures the grilles to the cars. I pulled, twisted, and yanked till I got the clips to give. I think I only broke one or two of them...but again, the old grilles were going in the garbage since the passenger side was missing a slat (snaggle-tooth).

Thank you Qsilver7 I used the wrong link. I started in the upper left corner of left grill.

You need small thin wrists, like kong24680 who removed mine for me...lol. I cannot recommend any other methods.

I tried with a long thin flat head to try to poke and keep the tabs down, but I just couldn't access of the tabs. It was a nightmare for me.

No kidding. My wrists were all sorts of bruised afterwards, but the process itself of removing the grilles is quite straightforward.

Well maybe it was just me who had a hard time. I do perform Dan Uggla wrist curls tho
