I was looking on realoem.com and thought I'd find a conclusive part number based on build but it looks like either are valid. The coils are Genuine BMW part numbers the ones ending in 236 state for years 2016-2018, made by delphi, and the part ending in 689 are for 2002-2018, made by bosch.

Seems like either are valid but you could buy the Delphi or Bosch branded equivalents far cheaper and they are the OE providers.

Visually different but functionally the same but one would think they'd have some guidance on them.

That's just the code the DME throw when you're in limp mode.. it's the result of other codes popping up.

If you replaced spark plugs and coil packs then your next on the list is injectors.

Yeah, I’m seeing on Instagram S63tu engine builders recommending to change fuel injectors @ 40k miles to help minimize engine failure

Id say every 20-30k stock and every 10k tuned. Yes don't play with injectors, i would replace them before they even show signs of failure if i were you. I have 40k kms on mine and changing them right away. If they leak, you will have misfire codes and they will dilute the oil and can cause a lot of issue (detonation/bend rods, rod bearings failures)

Jeez. I don't know if I would be livid or thankful. Glad to hear it was something simple though.
