rattle/creaking seat

hi all,

Had a quick search on here but couldn't find anything? has anyone experienced a rattle somewhere in/under the drivers seat? (RHD in the UK).

Its really annoying when driving with music off or low...sounds like loose trim but its when I move in the seat, like leaning against the bolster and at normal speeds and normal driving

any help muchly appreciated

I have this on mine (US, LHD) also. It sounds like a high pitched metal-on-metal squeak, almost like an old spring mattress. I'm wondering if it's possible that one of the springs in the seat frame has lost its bushing and the hooks are riding on the frame, causing the noise.

I have the same. Real annoying creaking sound. And my car is a 6MT GC, so it happens every time I push in the clutch.

I am disappointed with the seat quality in this car. The bolster wear is unacceptable after 3 years. The seat cover is being replaced under warranty. Hopefully they will figure out the creaking noise at the same time.

I dont have a sound (yet), but i do have a slight shift on quicker turns. Almost like something is mildly loose

Shame on me, when i first noticed i thought it was a feature lol

So, the 'thunk' feel is allegedly a bushing and the reported remedy is spraying with Teflon. Reportedly. ;-)

If you look around on the forums here, you'll find instructions, perhaps in the FAQ section. There's a white bushing that rides on the seat base rail. Seems spraying with Teflon restores it somehow.

There was a post somewhere that showed exactly the bush and even a drawing of something that the OP made to fix the issue of the loose feeling seat. I need to find it again and try it out !!! I am guessing the creaking / rattle is a precursor

I'm getting both problems.

1) A spring or high-pitch metal squeak when accelerating sometimes. It's definitely coming from the seat.

2) My seat shifts left to right and right to left anytime I make a sharp turn. Really annoying. I checked the seat rails and everything feels tight. I don't know where the looseness is coming from and it's getting annoying now.

Same here on issue #2 -- does anyone have a fix for shifting seat?

Or that rattling near the rear right passenger seat -- it's a squeak/rattle noise -- happens with the blinds up & down.

If the seat is the suspect issue, take it apart and possibly order any moving parts like seat springs and such. Just my suggestion… sometimes the little snap on locks that keep the trim on the doors break and become damaged over time… these can cause noises in the cabin as those trims move slightly with daily driving… suggest replacing all those parts per door trim as well… has made a major improvement for me… not so much seat noise

My Dealership mechanic told me there is a Technical Service Bulletin for the creaking noise. It is apparently applying a grease to a hinge joint in the seat. They performed the service on my car and the objectionable noise is gone. It is apparently a big job for disassembly and reassembly. They did it when they replaced the seat back leather trim, which always prematurely wears at the bolster area.

All good now, and under warranty!

If you find it, please put a link in this thread. I'll do the same. I need this fix. Thanks.

Well, that didn't last long. Two weeks has passed, and it is creaking again.
